A young rookie cop and his team discover dismembered female bodies in L.A. similar to the Black Dahlia cold case from 1947. A serial killer seems to be copying the brutal massacre of 1940s Hollywood starlet Betty Short. Ultimately his investigation leads him to a frightening lair of death and torture, all part of a terrifying fantasy that the killer is trying to bring to life.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

The reviews are spot on. This pile of sadistic dog @&!% would only appeal to serial killers, wanna be serial killers, or those who simply get off on seeing women butchered. The most annoying(and there are many)aspects of this piece of %@$ video is 1. the incredibly lame structure(if you can even call it that) We go to the killing room, then we go to the laughable investigation team, then some clown nerdy type goes to his typewriter, then we go back to the killing room again. 2. What in God's name possessed these so called filmmakers to juxtapose zillions of tiresome black and white freeze frames after every investigation team shot? 3. What was up with the very over modulated music, and wrong music during the killings? 4., then we get endless accelerated bull&@^ postproduction shots of the female victims., 5. the so-called climactic sequence was extremely tedious. Like, gee let's throw in the hundreds of other takes into the edit, er I mean shot pit, and let's see what happens!! This cinematic abortion makes me ashamed of being an aspiring moviemaker(yes, I've made a few). And, I've also seen many, many low budget God awful horror pictures. At least they tried...! This movie(if you can even call it that) is a total despicable piece of &*%!, that doesn't even warrant it comparable to 'snuff films'

There is no way I can, honestly, justify the act of seeing this movie. The fact that the movie had taken time and effort to be made, kind of sickens me. Ulli Lommel is a complete talentless hack and deserves no more than to vanish in obscurity along with his abominations that a very few can stomach to call "movies".I'm sure we've all seen our share of bad movies. For most of us it started with Plan 9 From Outer Space, but I could at least chuckle and like it ironically. With this "thing", I couldn't even muster up the energy to finish it the first time through (and I kind of wish I hadn't taken the time to do it on the second try). The acting is sloppy. The actors are ill-placed, poorly rehearsed, and lack any sort of natural flow. It doesn't help that the script is a complete mess that only manages to tell a repetitive and unoriginal story between bouts of horrid/forced dialogue. The editing borders on "monkey with Windows movie-maker" bad. Every student-film cliché in the book is in this movie and put along side Ulli Lommel's worthless skills as a director, this film comes together to make a giant waste of time. There is nothing, I repeat NOTHING, redeeming about this "movie". What makes B movie legends like H.G. Lewis so fun to watch is there movies are ridiculous and cheesy, but this film was enough to make me think about hurling my T.V. out a third floor window. I hope this film never reaches "cult status" and that no more people will get suckered into watching this flaming pile of godawful film making. If I had to give Ulli Lommel was piece of advice it would be to quit and go home, find something else to do, because this is clearly not working out.

THE Black Dahlia must have been really good for them to make a tacky "remake". I agree with other comments that the budget was unwisley spent on the cover and catering donuts instead of production. This movie was cheaply and distastefully made. The cover is quite deceiving. At first you would judge that it was a good movie but within the first 2 minutes you'll see otherwise! I don't know how the producer could have named it black Dahlia. The only similarity w/ this "Black Dahlia" and the real woman was the victem (i think you know who) was an aspiring actress. Obviously the titles are similar and deceiving. "The Black Dahlia" and "Black Dahlia" are easy to be confused. But lets just say from now on I'm paying attention to the caption on the back when I'm renting.

This is, like many of the previous comments point out, a worthless film, a waste of space. It's shot like cheap home video (not like an expensive ditto, like for example Cloverfield). In the intro, the supposedly dead "Black Dahlia" actually flinches when red liquid ("blood") squirts on her face, and everything that follows actually looks like cheap erotica (without actually showing more nudity than a few uncalled for bare breasts): There is no cinematographic feel at all; no love for the medium or genre like many other low budget movies possess. The "story" consists of the repetitive casting of new victims for the leather-masked, never explained butcher and the likewise unintelligible porn-star/anti-heroine egging him on.This film shows no story, drama, psychology, gore, humor or anything. Even writing this comment is showing it too much attention - don't waste your time and money on it!
