If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

Sword Of The Valiant: The Legend Of Gawain And The Green Knight (1983) Plot In A Paragraph: Gawain was a squire in King Arthur's court when the Green Knight (Connery) burst in and offered to play a game with a brave knight. No knights stand to defend their king's honor. Except for the valiant Gawain. After being quickly knighted Gawain plays the game, but learns that it's all a trick, and he has lost. But the Green Knight shows mercy, letting Gawain grow a year older before having to face the consequences. Gawain journeys across the land, learning about life in that year. Another expensive DVD, and another I wish I had not purchased. Hands down the worst movie Connery had made since his pre Bond days. He at least looked good in his green wig and antlers in what amounts to nothing more than an extended cameo. As for the rest of the movie it is awful. The hero of the piece, looks like he is wearing a wig from a £1 or $1 store. Although not really his movie, and I doubt he was on set for more than a couple of days, it was another huge flop for Connery.

The Arthurian legend of Sir Gawain And The Green Knight is given a nice big screen adaption with movie Tarzan Miles O'Keeffe playing the earnest young Gawain with Sean Connery as his formidable adversary. That the film does not follow the medieval poem will offend purists, but that won't count with the mass audience. It's the New Year at Camelot and in the midst of the celebration and libation King Arthur remarks how the Knights of the Round Table have gotten soft. No sooner than a mysterious Green Knight arrives at the court and offers a game. With a giant ax he's wielding he offers any one of them to strike off his head, but if he survives he gets a return shot at their necks. The older more experienced knights are skeptical and get nothing but scorn from Sean Connery. But eager young squire Gawain accepts the challenge. What a surprise O'Keeffe gets when after striking off Connery's head with one whack, Connery picks up his own head and places it upon his body seemingly unscathed. O'Keeffe is ready to honor the terms of the wager, but Connery feeling sorry for him as he hasn't really lived and tasted life gives him a year to do so. And a riddle to solve and he'll forego the decapitation. The King gives Gawain his knighthood and a squire of his own and they have enough adventure to fill up the rest of the running time of the movie. Sword Of The Valiant is grand old style entertainment that fills the big screen with adventure and a little romance. O'Keeffe packs a lot of living in as he awaits his appointment with Connery.Trevor Howard plays King Arthur in appropriate regal fashion and Sword Of The Valiant is a fine film with all three stars acquitting themselves well.

This movie had a collection of interesting supporting actors such as Peter Cushing, Ronald Lacey, Trevor Howard and the great Sean Connery. However, it completely fails on the lack of acting ability of Miles O'Keefe, who did a lot of movies of the fantasy variety before being consigned to Direct to DVD Perdition. The plot is that Sir Gawain has been given a year to live by the magical Green Knight, after which if he has not solved four riddles, the Green Knight can have his head. After a series of adventures rescuing a fair maiden from the magical city of Lyonese, and a battle with evil forces, Gawain has a final confrontation with the Green Knight, by which time you really and truly will not care anymore.Parts of this movie look good, others look kind of cheesy even for 1984.

Poor costuming,Bad acting,Some OK sets, and Lame plot. Not representative of the Rennaissance in it's lack of accuracy. The fantasy portion can't even begin to pull you into the story. Bad wig on Gawain. Overall the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. All I can say is Sean Connery must have needed money very badly to act (if you can call it that) in this monstrosity. Don't waste your time!
