It's not great by any means, but it's a pretty good movie that didn't leave me filled with regret for investing time in it.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

One of the most under-rated but surely among the best Hindi movies of 2016. It is a family drama with a tinge of comedy and romance. But what stands out is the truthfulness with which the conflicts between all characters is portrayed. I guess any viewer will be able to relate the film to his family in some way or another. Casting for all the parts seems apt. Rishi Kapoor brings forward his acting prowess playing a 90 year old grandfather. He is the eldest Kapoor but his amazing comic timing brings a lightness to the film. The two grandsons are played by Fawad Khan and Siddharth Malhotra. Both play their parts well while you might at some instances find Siddharth strained to show his emotions. Alia Bhatt does not really play a central character but her performance stands out. She is effortless in her portrayal of a myriad of emotions from fun to romantic to sad. This movie is a bit of an emotional roller-coaster and bound to leave you teary-eyed at times.

After a long time have seen a movie like this. Before watching it seemed to me like other Dharma production flicks having mostly the commercial get up on them. The 1st half was all about the tensions between family members, hospitalisation of the elder guy and calling up the grandsons, leading to a last wish reminding us of many other films. However, the more we went on,the more we could feel the warmth of the relationships,be it between the two siblings, two young lovers or most significantly among the three generations. It is a jeopardy of the human mind firstly to face our dear ones and then to accept their drawbacks. The movie asks if you have told your dear people about how much you love them, if there is anything to say to someone, is there anything to do for them etc.and advises to get the jobs done before it is too late because life is unpredictable.Young director Shakun Batra has come up with a very simple yet deep issue of our lives...our family clashes. Pak actor Fawad Khan made us speechless by his charm turning up into a long-run horse. Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, as usual maintained her real Kapoor's legacy. Sweet and funky Tia played by Alia Bhatt may be needed to be shown a little more. The eye soothing cinematography and the foot tapping music have nothing to be said.Threading the other end we must mention that there should a word 'homosexuality' be uttered by at least by one of the characters. We know that it might be a little "unsanskari"(untraditional) for Indian society but if this is the same KJo who made Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006) being ahead of time, why did he now step his foot back?..THINK!!!!

Kapoor & Sons is not what you think it is.It's not your Kar gayi chull type of movie with party songs and slapstick comedy which double dares you to laugh. It's a film very high on drama and equally high on fun. There are moments of joy, love, hate, fear, anguish and anxiety in every sequence of the film, a very rare feat to achieve. And they not only stay with you while the movie is running, they stay with you much after the movie is over. I almost cried in the later part of the movie(Enough Said!), not because there were too much emotions but it's just appropriate enough that you feel like it is your story. You could totally connect yourselves with whatever is happening, so much so that if you stay away from your family you feel like stop doing whatever you are doing and be with them again.Just one hug to them and a hug as hard as it can be. Just one hug. What makes Kapoor & Sons great?Well, it's every aspect there is in a movie. But the most of all is the screenplay and the performances. It is the juxtaposition of the events and the constant switching of camera over two scenes simultaneously taking place, that shows the craftsmanship of Shakun Batra, the director and also screenwriter(sharing credit with Ayesha Devitre Dhillon) of the movie. For example, there is this scene where the husband(Harsh) and the wife(Sunita) is fighting in the kitchen while Dadaji is angry on some other old aged person over the game of cards in the garden area and then both of the events gets merged and the resultant action takes place , same goes with Tia confronting Arjun and Rahul confronting his mother,Sunita. And don't get me started with the performances. Rishi Kapoor,Rajat Kapoor,Fawad Khan,Ratna Pathak Shah,Alia Bhatt and Siddhartha Malhotra.Oh boy! what a cast. The comic timing of Rishi Kapoor, the seriousness of Fawad Khan and the innocence of Ratna Pathak Shah(the Sarabhai Lady) are the notable ones which is going to stay with us.Maybe the ending is predictable but the journey is way way more unpredictable. Kapoor & Sons is a very rare movie and a brilliant example of how family drama should be. It sets the bar high enough for a movie of this kind. A movie so good that its screaming loudly for you to watch it.[9/10]

I have watched the film just a couple of minutes ago and I loved it.It's direction, story , screenplay, acting , characters, story-line all are just beautiful for a good movie. Loaded with suitable humor, comedy, emotions and pain as well. At the beginning of the movie though it is a little bit slow type, but at the second half the story gets its swift and takes drastic turns. It actually drags the audience and sinks in the characters and the story in this half. And then take them to the climax without giving a chance to get detached from the story . At the end it's beautifully wrapped up with "not that dramatic " happy ending. Quality movie made in Bollywood in story, direction, screenplay and acting for the year 2016. It is successfully able to touch the core of the heart. Not to be missed one .
