I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

I honestly went into this move with an open mind I understand the director was going to have a different version of the end of the world & the fact it's an indie movie. I got super excited that willem Defoe was in it but all in all he couldn't carry the movie due to the all the energy that was in the movie was all him every single character in the movie was dry & did not do their job. I understand people are gonna have different takes on the end of the world but this was silly on many parts too much to even label but I would've preferred either a comet or a nuclear holocaust or a comet to kill all life, I mean seriously the ozone layer depleting is the way the world ends that's worse than that Wesley snipes line in passenger 57 "always bet on black" cues music I will super frisbee this movie if I ever see a DVD of it

My biggest problem here is that this film is very unrealistic.OK, I get it, in the face of eminent death, what can you possibly do except keep on living your mundane life. But this isn't just the two main characters dying, the entire world is going to die! And yet the streets are so orderly, there is traffic, hours before the world ends Chinese restaurants are still operating, people expect to be paid, and everything seems to be like any other day.If you can get past that (and ignore everything you know about science), then you might just like it.This movie would have been thousand times better if it was about a couple with some terminal disease. Also, I thought the acting was terrible (specially the girl), terrible sound, terrible script. Just avoid it, OK?

The human race is destined to be eradicated from the planet at 4:44 a.m. due to the depletion of the ozone layer. Aging actor Cisco (a strong and intense performance by Willem Dafoe) and his much younger painter lover Skye (a fine and affecting portrayal by the pretty Shanyn Leigh) spend the last night on Earth together in their Manhattan high-rise apartment. Writer/director Abel Ferrara brings a subdued and reflective sensibility to the compelling story as he shows the characters dealing with the inevitability of life coming to a close by attempting to make amends for past indiscretions, saying goodbye to family and friends (Cisco telling his estranged daughter farewell via Skype rates as one of the single most heartbreaking moments in the picture), working on one last piece of art (Skye feverishly paints her final canvas throughout the course of the narrative), having sex, and getting high on drugs. Keeping the focus low-key and intimate by centering on two people, Ferrara manages to bring an extra gut-wrenching poignancy to the fairly plausible premise. Real-life newscaster Pat Kiernan has an especially moving scene in which he bids adieu to his viewers on live television. Popping up in nice bits are Natasha Lyonne as the saucy Tina, Anita Pallenberg as Skye's bitter mother, and Paul Hipp as Cisco's supportive ex-junkie brother Noah. The potent mood of doom and dread reaches a harrowing apex towards the end, with the uncompromisingly downbeat conclusion packing a real devastating punch. Both Ken Kelsch's sharp cinematography and the bluesy score by Francis Kuipers are up to par. A unique and interesting oddball entry in the apocalyptic science fiction genre.

**Spoiler alert!!** I may unintentionally reveal plot *laugh, laugh* elements I am stunned at the way some filmmakers and actors think they can do a movie and make a political statement and think by making it pretentious, it will be all that much more important. Enter this piece of pretentious garbage! I don't have anything good to say about this except that it finally ended. Everything is wrong about this film. The science is laughable (how the world is supposed to end). The characters are irritating, unlikable human trash and even worse, stupid! I kept praying they would get killed sooner rather than later. The camera work is terrible (you can actually see the jerky motor drive motion). The special effects (if you can call them that) are worse than a teenage kid does on his laptop nowadays. The poorly included soundtrack required turning the sound down it was so irritating. I don't know what more I can say to warn you not to waste your time.Let me try one last angle. If you consider yourself a liberal, this is the type of trash conservatives think you come up with which is why they don't take you seriously. If you are conservative, this is such liberal garbage, you won't want to waste your time watching this.
