When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

Nick West is a bald (slightly ugly) guy with a boxer's mug and a potty mouth. Nick West has been accused of murdering his girlfriend in an abandoned mental institution.Nick West wants you to know the full story, and he is here to tell it… for the better part of 90 loooong minutes. We see the full version of the initial events, the two twenty-somethings very much in lurrrrve wandering around the vacant and run down facility. We see them come across the old electric chair. We see the twosome taking turns sitting in the chair while t'other performs acts of lurrrrve on them. We see the straps inexplicably clamp down on the young woman before various drills and metal protrusions create new orifices (orifii?) where there were none before – and where no orifice should rightly be. We see the aftermath of the butchered and eviscerated young woman. No longer pretty. We see Nick West in the asylum for the criminally insane, his home of the four years elapsed since the unpleasantness.Nick West has come to terms with the fact that he simply must've committed the dark deeds some four years prior. After all what else could it have been? A magic electric chair? A usually inanimate portal to another evil dimension? Or is Nick West just f*cking batsh*t crazy? It is because of this realisation that Nick West is released from the institution; on the condition that he allow a psychiatrist Dr Willard access to tell his fascinating story. After begrudgingly agreeing Nick West, Dr Willard, 2 psych students (1 hottie, 1 w*nker) and Dr Willard's hottie assistant head off to spend a night in the scene of the… whatever. On the first night the good Dr sheds light into the facilities' dark past spanning many decades. Then… stuff happens. Nasty stuff.Stuff with lots of screaming.Stuff with lots of blood.Stuff with lots of gore.Stuff with lots of profanity (including more usage of the C word than I can recall in one film).Stuff with lots of Nick West.Stuff without much of my interest.I'll give The Devil's Chair some points for trying. It had what I guess was a twist – even though realistically there was only about three possible ways that this could have turned out – at least once they chose that 'way' they went for it.The voice-over started before we even saw anything on screen. And never stopped. I grew tired of hearing from Nick West and about Nick West. Within 10 minutes I had my three possibilities and spent the next 10 minutes waiting for which one they would go with – and unlike The Sixth Sense it wasn't the fourth option of three. What remains is a nasty little piece of work with little entertainment value, few surprises and not much new or different to bring to the table. Or Chair as it were.Final Rating – 5 / 10. I have seen Nick West. I have heard his story. That was 2 nights ago though. It is now forgotten. The ultimate 'meh' horror movie.

The Devil's Chair follows the story of Nick west who after taking his girlfriend out for a crazy LSD induced night with in the walls of a deserted asylum, finds himself accused of her brutal murder and is shipped off to a mental hospital. Years later a doctor who is writing a book decides to take Nick back to the scene of the grisly murder along with some other students to find out the truth about what happened that night. It's very rare that after I watch a horror movie these days that I'm totally blown away and speechless. But The Devil's Chair did just that too me, for anyone who has become jaded and heartbroken with what horror has become in the eyes of the mainstream, it will remind you of all the reasons you fell in love with the genre to begin with. This movie has it all a well written and acted script, beautiful special effects, and a ending that will leave you running the entire film over and over through your mind as if it's stuck on repeat for weeks to come. It's really sad that a movie like this did not see a nationwide theater release as it would have been a very fun and intense experience on the big screen. And I believe audiences would of left very happy with what they paid too experience something that I'm sure a lot of today's mover goers don't have the pleasure of saying too often. If you have not seen this film it should be added to the top of your too watch list. Adam Mason does a wonderful job at keeping your attention and makes it all worth your while when it comes to the end leaving you satisfied and lost in a state that can only be described as pure horror bliss. The special effects and overall setting in this movie is beautiful. The blood and gore are realistic and the kills are very intense. I was very impressed with the way this movie was filmed, at first when I was going into this movie I was expecting something along the lines of the quality you'd find in most B horror movies. But I was very wrong the special effects and overall visuals of this movie are on par with what you see Hollywood churning out these days. But unlike Hollywood horror your also blessed with a mind blowing story that's backed up with very solid and believable acting. The dialog in this movie at times is very thought provoking and really makes you take into consideration what the main character is saying. I was highly impressed with the writing in this movie, something I don't get to say about to many horror movies these days.In the end when all is said and done and I think back to the experience I had while watching this movie I believe it deserves the rating of 9 out of 10 and a spot on my list of important horror movies to see before you die.9/10Ritualistic The Liberal Dead http://liberaldead.blogspot.com

I do not like this movie but I score it nine. It is horror. In many ways a modest film, limited, but it is very affective as horror. Surprisingly horror is an ambiguous term and horror fans look for different rewards from a film. My insight comes from reading short stories which end sharply leaving a bitter and worrying after taste. This film ends very disturbingly. Perhaps I wish I had never watched it. Perhaps my life would have been sweeter if I had never read H.P.Lovecraft. The different kinds of acting on display here might bother viewers, but I think the denouement justifies all. The setting is excellent. You wouldn't need better production values or more money for this film.

The best way to describe this film is totally, absolutely, positively crap, why? I'll tell you, it is one of those horror films that has one of those stupid plot twist in the end, the kind that doesn't put anything into perspective, the kind that leaves you with such a feeling of disappointment at the fact that they had a good concept in their hands and they ruined it completely, only with this film it felt like it was more deliberate, because you have this nice little "B" movie monster thing going for while and well into the film, guess what, it was never real it was all in his head and the rest of the movie doesn't make sense.Frankly I think considering the mood the ending left me in, this film is a disgrace to the horror genre, I saw a quote on this film stating "It turns the genre on its head" this film doesn't belong in the genre, the world would be spared if the makers of this thing would not consider to do a sequel.
