Alien Apocalypse (2005)

Slow pace in the most part of the movie.

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

Now, let's look at the plot line - astronauts come back to earth after stasis and find humans enslaved and the planet being ruled by giant alien cockroaches. To some of us, it just doesn't get any better than this!Nobody in their right mind is going to take Alien Apocalypse seriously, and those who want to watch it will do so regardless of reviews that deplore plot holes, bad effects, and poor acting. Get a life! It's supposed to be this way! I thought the effects hilarious (the alien Cockroaches are too much!), and the acting suitably over the top. The film editing is excellent, and the Cockroaches' decapitation of victims as hors d'oeuvres has got to be seen to be believed. This movie doesn't try to be campy, but just silly. It's Larry, Curley and Moe for the boomers!So grab some pretzels, a brew or two, a couple of good friends and just howl. Hey, it's got Bruce Campbell in it, and it's a hoot! Enjoy! :-)

I watched Alien Apocalypse with low expectations, and while not a good movie at all it was better than I thought it would be. It does have a lot of problems, such as the cheap special effects, ridiculously fake beards, an overbearing soundtrack, dialogue that is corny at best and cringe-worthy at worst, clichéd characters, overly cartoony violence(though the shooting at the beginning was actually quite good), a silly story that felt rushed and was lacking in suspense or surprises and mostly awful acting. However, there is some well-conceived gore, some good shots which make the killing of the aliens much more satisfying, some nice scenery and the amiable acting of Renee O'Connor and Bruce Campbell, who always tries hard no matter how bad the script or overall movie is. All in all, not a must-avoid movie, but hardly a must-watch either. 4/10 Bethany Cox

Let me preface what I am about to write with the admission that I could not make it past the first 15 minutes. The fact I gave this a "2" rating is only because I am a sap and cannot bring myself to give it a 1 (though I am not sure it deserves a 1). You could not convince me that the director / writer / producer did not simply rip off the plot of Planet of the Apes and then make it 1,000 times worse. It's one thing to be inspired by an artist or artistic creation. It's OK to be inspired by someone else's work; but to rip it off and then wreck it is almost unforgivable. Just as someone will take a mile if you give them an inch, so will a director take a few million dollars and make a $30,000 movie (OK not sure that made sense, but you know what I am getting at, I hope). Forget water boarding as a means of torture- just make political prisoners sit through the first 15 minutes of this film and they would tell you anything you want to know.

When all is doubted and all seems lost never forget that one man can bring back the pride and that man is a "Space Man" and a doctor. Who later discovers that while meeting a beautiful lady she has the best cure of them all, ale. Not only a great way to heal the sick but a great way for helping to forget your sorrows and remember the past before (they) came…the film is what you expect. Corny funny. The humor is light but it draws you in. The world has changed so much since we last knew it…life is just living everyday and trying to make do with what is left of what you have which is not much of anything. Out of fear even some of the humans have traded sides hoping to be on the right side when the time comes. One mans non-stop courage gives hope and determination to everyone around him…he gathers followers returning faith that has long faded and proves that sometimes you have to take control of the madness yourself and stop relying on someone else that may not even really exist anymore.
