Highly Overrated But Still Good

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

Funny, strange, confrontational and subversive, this is one of the most interesting experiences you'll have at the cinema this year.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

'Unknown' is a low budget independent Psycho-thriller. The setting of the story is 5 men wake up with amnesia, some injured, some not, in a derelict warehouse which is locked from the outside; While this might sound like a 'Saw' rip-off, it's most definitely not,it's more like an Agatha Christie's Whodunit mystery without the Tuxedos. The Script is pretty good with frequent twists and turns and left me guessing till the end; although the interactions between the 5 main characters was more than a bit unbelievable. The movie has a strong cast led by Jim Caviezel, Greg Kinnear and Barry Pepper with a cameo from the always good Peter Stormare. I found the movie to be far better thriller than I expected. Very Watchable.

This film is about five men waking up in an old warehouse, with no memory of who they are and why they are there."Unknown" tells a story where no one knows what is happening. From the available environmental evidence and fragments of memory that comes back to the five men, they deduce what happened to them. They try to get out but in vain. The atmosphere is filled with mistrust and suspense. It is scary when there is no one you can trust, and this film capture this feeling very well. I was thoroughly kept on the edge but the mysterious plot, and I was impressed by the double twist at the end. I think "Unknown"is a good thriller and I hope to watch similar films.

After familiarizing myself with the plot summary, I decided to watch the movie to find out how much the idea known from Reservoir Dogs or Saw was going to be exploited... Luckily, the actors are good (especially Greg Kinnear and Peter Stormare) and a parallel chase is depicted. However, the flashbacks are often too fast, but the scenes get sometimes too slow. The plot is still OK, tensions are there and viewers are left unknown for a long time. It is probably more interesting to watch it in the male company, as female characters are present less than 10% of the total length - which is fortunately not big (1h 15 min.). The ending is awkward, but probably it is found great by many viewers.

Okay, there is some 'action' scenes that make it good for a 2-hour getaway. But c'mon! It's laughable beyond the action when one considers for a moment what it's trying to make us accept or believe.Such as: --Forgetting the 'brief case' with all the pass ports, information is unfathomable. -- He rushes back to the airport to get it without so much as a hint to the 'wife' that he's doing so. -- What does 'oz' mean everywhere? Another blogger already noticed that. -- Why did the 'wife' go into the suite to onhook the bomb because her face still would've been recorded when they were there 3 months prior anyway! -- And why didn't she break the wall out further to get to the bomb deactivate system, rather than reaching down blindly down through the wall and blowing herself up anyway? -- Why did the hardened, East German spy readily eat cyanide just because that old rogue showed up at his apartment? Why'd he give in so soon, when he could've killed him as a trespasser or robber? -- Why was it that the only two people catching a train was Liam and the other hit dude? -- Save your money and go see instead: Barney's Version.
