The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

While watching it I was a little put off by the non-historic mix of 300 & Troy - but knowing its N.L. I didn't expect a historical documentary, unlike 300 and Troy with their stupid Kung Fu Hoplites in skirts (if your going to do a Kung Fu movie do it & don't pretend it in ancient Europe! unless it tongue in cheek) which this makes fun of). Put history aside & the jokes were funny. The acting is great. The cinematography is good. The girls are hot. What more do you need? (unless you a pretentious snob - then what are you doing watching N.L.?) The last scene puts it all in prospective (won't spoil it for you it just makes it all make sense). great spoof movie with a great reason for the spoofs (& deserving targets)!

The Legend of Awesomest Maxiumus is a faithful recollection of the times of the Romans. From the inherent accuracy of the armors and actions of the characters to the way they speak and the gestures they use, it's a beautiful film which I recommend to any culture class or Latin class as a history lesson. Keep in mind, however, that the other reviewers find this as a spoof due to incorrect information spread by the internet about the Romans. This results in some misinterpretation of the intent of this film. The National Lampoon is not only a comedy film making name, but also one of historical significance in the fields of archaeology and historic research. So before you go into a class thinking that Romans were uncouth, arrogant, or at all incapable of providing thought into anything they say, make sure that you watch this movie. It'll set you straight.

lol@this post "Don't waste your time on this. I thought that maybe because this is a Lampoon movie it would be at least funny and watchable. Boy was i wrong.The jokes are REALLY lame, it does parody some of the scenes from troy and 300 but it's mostly done with no taste and could have been done so much better.Ultimately if you are into the normal toilet humor and sex jokes then this will maybe entertain you. But even as a parody movie it totally blows.To think that they are the people who once made Animal House. It's a total disgrace how bad this is." really!?!? i love John Belushi too, but, animal house was like the worst...in fact he is the only reason I'd watch it..which is what brought me to this movie, Will Sasso, just an unbelievably funny guy in the right situation and this was it! Thank you National Lampoon, I laughed the whole time...I guess it's hit or miss.PS i don't watch a comedy, least of all a spoof, to wonder if I'm too old to laugh at jokes, i watch it to laugh...and i did

Well, this had potential, but it failed on an epic level, like oh so many of the previous National Lampoons movies. There haven't been any real noteworthy Lampoon movies since Chevy Chase did the "Vacation" movies, with one exception being perhaps the "Gold Diggers" movie.The story in "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" is just another spoof off former major Hollywood movies, such as "Gladiator", "300" and "Troy". And it didn't fully work the way it was supposed to. I honestly didn't even laugh a single time throughout this entire movie.Now, I am not saying that everything is bad in this movie. The sets and the costumes, for example, were quite good and had lots of nice, cool details.And also the cast they had managed to get together for this movie project was also quite impressive. It was weird, but funny, to see Ian Ziering in the role of Testiclees, which was so far off the only thing I have otherwise seen him do in "Beverly Hills 90210". I don't get the hype about Kristanna Loken in this movie, it was not all that impressive. The role of Minoritees, played by Tony Cox, was one of the more memorable roles in the movies, right up alongside Khary Payton who played King Erotic. Now, what really blew me away in "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" was the fact that they had managed to get Rip Torn on the cast list.Actually, the fight scenes were cool enough and had enough action to actually be worth sitting through, but "The Legend of Awesomest Maximus" suffered from a very weak storyline and the world didn't really need another spoof to make fun of "300".Having sat through the entire movie without a single laugh, I can honestly say that the movie is not one that I will be returning to watch a second time, it just doesn't have enough value for that. There were some nice things in the movie, but they were sparse and far apart. But hand on heart, this movie seemed like little more than an excuse to put scantily clad women, breasts and other nudity on the screen. And the language in the movie, wow! Right from the beginning there was cursing, foul language and really inappropriate words for minors. And those facts really dragged the points down on the review scale on my behalf.
