I wanted to but couldn't!
I like movies that are aware of what they are selling... without [any] greater aspirations than to make people laugh and that's it.
The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
I rewatched The Perfect Christmas Present last night, mainly because my wife is secretly in love with Sam Page, from his Switched at Birth role. This movie took some nice detours away from the standard Hallmark Christmas path, notably without a gap toothed youngster. I'm no expert, but it seems much of the movie was actually filmed in Chicago, as opposed to Vancouver or some other cheaper Canadian city. The real treasure of this movie though, was Tara Holt as Jenny. (Refreshingly not named after some aspect of Christmas, like Holly, etc.) Her eyes magnificently shone with a life force not often seen on Halllmark movie leads! She's both beautiful and also her acting was moving, leading down the various emotional paths her character took.
I am currently watching it for a second time. It is a fantastic movie. The acting is top notch. The message is perfect. The story is interesting and believable. I have watched many many Hallmark movies and this one is one of the better ones of an already excellent portfolio.I like to write reviews but I always feel it is difficult because of leaving out spoilers.
This was so close to being excellent, but I just could not get over Sam Page's look. There was just something odd about him. I had a hard time when he was on screen which was way too much. And, making a career out of finding presents...dumb. Tara Holt was hot...she was never in a slinky dress...that's a minus.Overall, good narrative thread, but the occupation of the Tom was just too stupid to believe. Oh...and what was entirely annoying was incessant face timing with the girlfriend....what was the purpose of that...much better if they were in the same room at least. Ugh.
I enjoyed this movie. I really like Sam Page. This is the first movie I've seen of his but I'll look for others now. I did have a hard time warming up to the character of Jenny. She didn't come across has believable has the head of an organization. But overall I'd watch it again.
