The 2 stars are for the special effects; everything is pretty horrible. The actors? stink. The dialogue is unintentionally hilarious. and the production values, outside of the promising special effects are not even as good as Plan 9 From Outer Space. The actors are worse than Bela Lugosi. The Day Time Ended should have ended one hour or so before I saw this turkey. This was made in 1980? (1979). It looks like it was made much earlier. Before the inventions of scripts.

The Day Time Ended. That's right. Not "The Day The Earth Stood Still". It's "The Day Time Ended" (1980). I decided to pull one out that probably none of you reading this post have watched or remember. I'm a sucker for sci-fi and I definitely enjoy well-made B-movies, and I would watch almost anything with practical special effects just to enjoy the atmosphere and the visuals. However "The Day Time Ended" is a whole different story. I actually LOVE this one. It's one of the best flick that Charles Band ever produced and it features some pretty neat cast, most notably Jim Davis. I rented it from a local video store, because come on, who can resist THAT VHS cover! And it totally blew me away! It is about a family that gets together in a remote house and suddenly the whole location goes bananas, as if they are all in the center of some inter-dimensional whirlpool, a place where space and time get all mixed up. There is no explanation for what is going on, weird, fantastic, creepy, scary and beautiful things happen and the characters react in their own way, not knowing what is the meaning of it all. It is so chaotic and random that it actually feels real, like when you are just thrown in a situation beyond your understanding. And as a kid I really related to that. Various creatures, from tiny aliens to giant reptiles, UFOs, spaceships and artifacts appear out of the blue and I was just bewildered. The stop motion special effects are lovely and they are more than enough to make "The Day Time Ended" worthy of your time. Matte paintings take you out of this world. Maybe you need to be a child when you watch it for the first time, I don't know. But "The Day Time Ended" captures the imagination, makes you wonder and dream, makes you wanna curl up under a blanket and imagine what the light through your bedroom window could be... Give it a try! :)

I did not think this was that bad a movie. Yeah it was kind of hokie but at least it was entertaining. A family moves to a new house in the desert. An eerie green pyramid shows up, I guess caused by the light from three simultaneous novas from a couple hundred years ago. Aliens start showing up, including an obvious one that is claymation, but it seems friendly enough. Strange things happen as the aliens keep appearing in their space crafts. One thing that is really nice to see is the adults treat the oldest boy like a grown up, having him help out instead of telling him to stay inside or stay away. The girl appears to be the key to everything as she has a now miniaturized pyramid in her possession and it seems to respond to her wishes, stopping the car, chilling the burning door, etc. Jim Davis and Dorothy Malone play the grandparents and do a good job. I have liked them both for many years and thought they never really got the credit they deserved. Then the monsters start showing up and they are claymation also. Now in 1979 it would seem they could have done a lot better with the special effects. It is interesting that the power for the property seems to come and go. It works some times but not others. One funny scene is when one of the monsters actually knocks on the front door of the house!!!! Towards the end of the film the house is transported to a locale that seems very Bermuda Trianglish, old derelict planes, wrecked vehicles from who knows where, etc. The green pyramid shows up again and stops whatever is going on but the mother and the little girl disappear into a vortex. Are they gone for ever??? Well the mom shows up and tries to explain things, then the girl shows up. This is a very uneven and poorly plotted movie but I still found it interesting.

The movie is low budget nature, but the story and the acting is pretty good which makes this movie worth watching.Super nova brings aliens to the family ranch in Mojave desert. There're some good effect and some bad, but it definitely frightens the family, except for the grand daughter who seems to be able to communicate with the aliens.Granted that this movie was made in 1980 when we already had the original Star Wars and The Empire Strikes back, and compared to them this is unbelievably unsophisticated in production. What I mean is, technology was available back then to make a first rate science fiction movie, but this one is way behind the mark on the "science" side of the fiction. But despite the bad special effects, the movie isn't bad because actors does good job of carrying the story. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but above average production in the arena of B sci-fi movies.
