It's official, aliens creep me the F out. They're just so damn weird and scary. After the disappointing The Fourth Kind, I decided to revisit this cheap little movie. I remembered it being campy and hokey, but apparently I was wrong. This was a lot scarier than I remembered and did have a fairly natural feel. There were some obvious attempts at character development, which got in the way, such as th forced "Oh, my sisters boyfriend is black and I'm not comfortable with this BLAH BLAH BLAH". Also some of the aliens methods were just pretty confusing, such as making two people kiss. What it does is avoid cheap jump scenes whilst gradually building to a climax of fear.

A family celebrating thanksgiving are interrupted by strange goings-on: the power goes out and a strange other-worldly craft is sighted. This film has some genuinely creepy moments as the space invaders start infiltrating the house and knocking the characters off one by one.The camera-work is fly-on-the-wall as the situation unravels, a few people also appear as supposed analysts to the filmed event which adds another dimension of reality to it. Really none of the actors can be faulted. At first I thought this was a blatant rip-off of Blair Witch, but then noticed it was a year older. It's pretty creepy ... you might find yourself checking the windows and doors.

Caught this on Sky Sci Fi/Horror movie channel on night. A good movie for what it is really. But what slightly bugged me about it was that the acting was just like watching and episode of an American soap opera, the direction of the acting was going through also. A happy American family is portrayed on screen through the style a la Blair Witch (However didn't this come before Blair Witch?) Anyway, the problem is I don't know what people are saying that it looked REAL when this is obviously far from the truth. First off, the acting is not the type of acting you would expect to see at a thanksgiving dinner through a camcorder. The actors are behaving like it is a movie with awful clichés when it should be portrayed as REAL life acting especially if we are to assume this is actual footage of a real tape. The acting is mediocre at best when it comes to this movie. What the director/writers should have left out was the sudden interruptions they made during the movie having brief interviews with a cop, a rock star abductee, and a scientist giving their thoughts on the "Found" Footage. Pure Garbage in my opinion. However, having said all that, it didn't ruin the movie for me that much. It was in fact enjoyable. What made this movie great was the aliens outside the house and telepathically messing with the families minds, and causing them to suffer from nosebleeds and burns on their backs, and having all the electronics in the house go haywire and having the young girl only barely touching the keys on the piano, making the other family members think she is actually playing the piano, we the audience only notice this however through the camera. A few eerie scenes made me say "this is crazy" a few times, which I loved.Seeing this now, it reminded only a small bit of Paranormal Activity, set in a house giving it a kind of claustrophobic sense with bad s***t going down. However I wont compare it to it that much, this was obviously way low budget, and way back in 1998 especially. So I wont compare it to Paranormal Activity really except for the house setting through the camera. Overall, a decent movie. Just ignore those stupid actors in the "Interviews".

This movie is based on a supposedly genuine piece of film which depicts a family being terrorised and eventually kidnapped by aliens. As to whether or not this movie is based on TRUE EVENTS I cannot say, but i can say that as a believer I think that all the people represented in this movie by actors were abducted by aliens. My decision may be biased due to the fact that I believe in aliens. The movie is basically a typical thanksgiving dinner gone horribly wrong. Aliens begin to attack! All of the events are taped on video by a 17 year old boy. Eventually as two of the sons go missing one of the group goes into a comatose-like state and eventually dies. A young girl whom is seemingly possessed then unloads a gun and at the end supposedly opens the door for the aliens. The group also retreat outside and are followed. One character in particular is felt sorry for and that is the old lady. She is in a state of distraught and denial in several parts of the movie and ends up speaking to her dead husband. This was not a review but a list of key events that may interest you enough as to make you see the movie for yourself. The actors also are very convincing because they do not take turns to talk but argue and debate over each other. The best actor in this movie by far is Gillian Barber who plays the eldest of the characters. She is truly a master of sending the message that she is TRULY scared. I really felt sorry for her during the course of this movie.BRAVO GILLIAN BRAVO!
