This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The Plot.Susan Stevenson and her brother Arthur get off a plane in Papua New Guinea, looking for her missing husband. They team up with, Dr. Edward Foster. The three head into the jungle, get in more than a few fights among themselves, and view lots of gratuitous animal cruelty, notable an iguana getting eviscerated. And it begins with a turtle attacking a croc! WTF?Very cheaply made movie. The music is like those horrible Filipino movies from the 60s/70s. Ursula Andress walks thru her role with raccoon eyes and Keach must have been on his coke bender to make this movie.I'm assuming this movie was re-edited or re-released in that the title I saw was Curse of the Cannibal God.It's really awfully directed. And half the time it makes no sense. Andress gets attacked by a tarantula and Keach tells her to watch out because the bite will kill her (it won't) but then they all go to sleep on the jungle ground where anything can get them!Kept waiting for Andress to undress. Didn't happen. She was already past her prime anyway.

Scene better cannibal movies which is most likely why it took me so long to see this one.Love the imagery of animals eating each other as is the nature of predators, throughout the movie you see lizards eating mammals mammals getting reptiles reptile eating birds, etc etc.Not as much human eating human for a film with cannibal in the title. That's a little disappointing.Really like the music. Not sure if the entire score really fits the tone of the movie it more seems that the film has one or two tracks worthy of playing over and over again and they are nice. Not the best example of Cannibal films but not the worse movie.http://cinemagardens.com

The Mountain of the Cannibal God (1978) *** (out of 4) Italian cannibal flick has a wife (Ursula Andress) hiring a man (Stacy Keach) to take her through the New Guinea jungle after her husband went missing on an expedition. Soon the group are battling the wildlife as well as a cannibal tribe that were thought to have gone extinct. Sergio Martino's THE MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD contains the same nasty stuff that most films in the genre have but this here is slightly different in the fact that it contains some very familiar faces. Andress certainly had come a long way since her DR. NO days but I must admit that I really enjoyed seeing her here. Even though she was 43-years-old at the time of filming, the actress looks absolutely beautiful and it was fun seeing her give it her all in regards to not only the nudity but also going around in dirty water and dealing with countless things including a large python at one point. It was also fun watching Keach here who is as calm and collective no matter what he's doing. The two of them certainly help keep the film moving and it's fun seeing them in an exploitation film like this. Martino actually does a nice job in the directing department as he at least brings some style to the film and doesn't forget to deliver on the trash. Those against animal killings are going to want to avoid this as there's some pretty graphic stuff going on here. The movie also offers up some pretty graphic violence towards humans and the uncut version of the film features a pig rape and other sexual natured stuff. In fact, I'd say go with the slightly shorter version to miss this trash. As with most in the genre, I think the films work best if you look at them as jungle adventures and on that level the locations and the drama behind the various attacks make the film worth viewing. Of course, most stomachs aren't going to be able to take it.

"The Mountain of the Cannibal God" is an action adventure film intertwined with intrigue, shock and candid looks at nature and those closet to it. This is far from other films that share the tag as this goes for realism rather than fantasy or heroism, is a party pooper when it comes to fun, and is steady with violence and gore to appease a depraved fan of horror compared to someone looking for a safe and easy ride in the jungle. This is going for a documentary feel with an intimate look at how beautiful and cruel the wild can be. A group of brave westerners with some natives are assembling a trek to this mysterious, remote mountain in New Guinea. When the urbanized natives steer clear and give warning even if it means saving someone, take heed. Though the party members are tightening their boots and stuffing their packs with purpose no matter the peril. But maybe that's because they have their own hidden motives to drive them forward or that cannibals are just things for the imaginative daydreamer. Just maybe. There's credible tension between the characters as they battle the terrain and encounter deadly animals, along with experiencing inquisitive peaks into odd customs and superstitions along the way. A big sensationalist draw here is there are non-simulated animal vs animal and man vs animal attacks. Its stark and unnecessary realism will be argued from here to the moon, but it ultimately creates an environment where no one is safe and it could be your turn at any moment, so best to keep a blade handy and one eye open when you sleep.Time is taken with "Cannibal God" to pace the story and build up surprises. The atmospheric and sometimes downright uncomfortable music leaves emotion on the screen like another appendage of the actors. This is structured so the audience feels the tension as much as the performers do in the moment it's occurring. It gives the film a sense of believability over other Mondo cinema that falls short of maintaining that the events taking place could actually happen. Compared to "Alligator" and "Island of the Fish Men," this is by far the best in the Sergio Martino, as I like to call it, "westerners-in-the-wild" trilogy starring the late Claudio Cassinelli due not only to a bigger budget but most importantly a more refined focus.
