It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

This film was Sridevi's last film in 1990s before her temporary retirement and comeback with English Vinglish. During the making of the film, Sridevi married Anil's brother and producer Boney Kapoor who was already married and had 2 children. The film has a weird concept of selling 1 husband which is hard to digest though the characters may seem relatable. Another problem is forced comedy which was prevalent in 80s. The comedy gets to the nerves Another problem is it's melodramatic tone which does get irritating but films were made like that in 90s. Some scenes are well handled like Sridevi's outburst towards the end and Anil's too.Direction by Raj Kanwar is good but writing could be better Music is good though too many songsAnil Kapoor plays his part well which is underwritten though, Sridevi is exceptional in her role making the unbelievable seem believable Urmila is decent, Kader Khan is funny though his comedy track could be avoided, Farida Jalal is as usual, Paresh Rawal annoys, Johny Lever is funny rest are okay

First of all I totally agree with the comment given by the user Dave Abott. This is one of the best bollywood movie ever. It teaches how greed eats ones happiness. it also teaches how one should spend money carefully and how badly it effects when it is spent wastefully. But unfortunately half of the movie was filled with unnecessary comedies. By deducting the unnecessary comedies this should have more dramas relating to greed. This movie could have been the "LEGEND OF BOLLYWOOD" if it would had done that way. Especially, the acting of Sridevi who was perfect for the role of a greedy woman and Anil kapoor who was perfect for the role of a thrifty person and a loving husband. All and all I think this movie should have had some MORE family dramas rather than unnecessary comedies.

I mean, come on - a woman sells her husband? And on top of that, the husband has no objection? Which woman would sell her husband? Which woman would want to buy a man? Which man would be ready to display himself for sale? It's a big joke. The film does have something that partially works, maybe it's the naivety of the mainstream, escapist, and not-always-realistic Hindi cinema. But it falls short soon. The main idea and the entire story make it look pathetic. Anil Kapoor is ordinary. Sridevi, despite delivering a generally good performance with a nice mixture of comedy and drama, is annoying and unbearable at times. I mean, you need not be a complete idiot to make a convincing poor and rural housewife. It's not her fault, it's the director's insistence to make her a court jester. Urmila is perhaps the best of the lot, and she plays the simple rich girl endearingly. Well, Judaai is not that bad for a one-time watch, and I believe some would enjoy it. My say - watch it if you are ready to go through moments of sheer stupidity.
