Sadly Over-hyped

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

A hot American rock band hide out at the posh country estate of the stuffy Lord Foxley (delightfully played by Peter O'Toole) and his kindly wife Lady Foxley (a fine and dignified performance by Joan Plowright), who are forced to pass themselves off as measly servants due to financial dire straights. Meanwhile, spunky new bass player Nat (a winningly sparky portrayal by Alicia Silverstone) faces opposition from several group members after she replaces the original frontman who has mysteriously disappeared. Directed with a rather unsteady hand by usually reliable veteran Sidney J. Furie and further marred by a pretty sloppy script by Mark Mills, this somewhat uneasy, yet still lively and hence entertaining blend of comedy and drama never quite manages to find a completely consistent tone and throws way too many narrative threads into the air without getting them to cohere in a wholly satisfying way, but nevertheless somehow oddly works thanks primarily to the spot-on wonderful chemistry between O'Toole and Plowright. Moreover, the sound acting by the able cast holds the picture together: Jaimz Woolvett as charming songwriter Leo, Keram Malicki-Sanchez as the moody Flit, Christopher Bolton as the groovy Carl, Lochlyn Munro as amiable stoner drummer Dave, Martin Clune as shifty record company executive James Chancellor, Amy Phillips as the sweet Georgia, and Alex Karzis as arrogant jerk Ben. A flawed, but overall fun little film.

This refers to the TV version, so I might have missed something edited out. After reading the TV listing's blurb I was set for a boring movie. Boy, was I ever surprised. Before the first commercial I was treated to people who have very realistic appearances (they look like everyday people), new takes on some old humor, evil corporate bullying and delightfully lovable English nobility who can pull off a harmless stunt when cornered by life's uglier realities. Then came the Young People, otherwise known as an American band called Global Heresy, but they weren't the stereotypical, eye-rolling groaners. Definitely hip, loud, raucous and irreverent, they had good hearts as well as useable brains.I'm not sure why some people have a problem with O'Toole in this role, though I can guess that some people like their dramas straight-up and don't want O'Toole to be comedic. I thought all the main characters were delightful, and O'Toole's portrayal of a nobleman forced to "lighten up" is something special to be seen.I have *got* to see this again!

I for one loved this movie, yes I won't watch it with my kids in the room but for my entertainment the movie just made me smile. I'm sure it wasn't meant to be deep or thought provoking but it makes you feel good inside and it won't be a waste of time. In fact if you had a bad day and feel like watching something that will make you laugh then this movie is for you. Plus I really loved the music featured on this film! I have found others just like me that loved this movie and have even started fan based groups! I give it a thumbs up! I loved the actors, they were just awesome in this movie and it was just hilarious to see the old couple trippin on acid. Not that I promote or approve those kinds of things but it was a comedy not to be taken seriously. Watch the movie and then rate it yourself!

The Movie has the obvious aspects of feelgood in places, but there's also plenty of sharp humour to make up for that fact. It's basically a good old 'feelgood' movie. The films saving grace is it has two amazing songs in it (Star and House) from writer Ray Loverock, who was in the band Northstar.Following the split of Northstar, he is now in one of the UKs hottest new bands called We Love You i've dug around and found out.If you love his songs in the movie go check out this brilliant new band right now, their songs are absolutley amazing, this is the most exciting band i've heard in years.I'm keeping track of the band via their site for info on where you can buy their music when they have a release.Peter O'Toole makes the film with his charasmatic presence.Go check out the film, and the music of We Love You.
