NYPD Detective Sara Pezzini's main goal in life was to bring down Tommy Gallo, the hitman who killed her father, her best friend, and eventually her partner. While chasing down one of Gallo's thugs, she acquires the Witchblade, an enchanted armored glove once used by Joan of Arc that deflects bullets, extends into bladed weapons, produces visions, and neatly compacts itself into a bracelet.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

This story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

This was a made-for-TV movie a few years back when comic book adaptations were just starting to make a name for themselves with films such as "X-Men" raking in all the cash at the box office. Unfortunately "Witchblade" is just another cash-in and not at all unique - it is supposedly based on a comic book of the same name, but in all actuality, it's just plain lame. (Hey, that rhymed!) Yancy Butler plays the lead character - a woman who inadvertently stumbles upon a magic "blade" that gives her superpowers to battle evildoers. Enter the Bad Guy Who Wants to Dominate the Earth and other comic book clichés - all in all it's pretty terrible. The acting isn't completely atrocious but it leaves a lot to be desired. The direction is poor and typically made-for-TV in style; however it's the script that is particularly bad - annoying, banal, and packed with really bad dialogue. The fact that this "film" spawned a TV series is kind of surprising because it is basically just a poor cash-in on a rather obscure comic book that I had never even heard of. (But then again, I don't read comics.) View at your own peril.

I will be the first to make comments in 2004. Let's keep the memory alive. I really enjoyed this show and fortunately I taped most of season 1 and season 2 on video. I have watched it over and over and only hope it gets released to dvd before my tapes wear out.I never read the comics so my opinions are strictly about the tv series. I found this to be a very unique story. The witchblade is very mysterious and I love how it had a great history, using actual historical figures and events. I kept wondering if it truly existed. The characters are all wonderful. Sara is a strong, intelligent female lead character (and surrounded by all those hot men). I find the characters very intriguing and I had to keep tuning in every week just so I could figure out who everyone was and how they related to each other, especially Kenneth Irons and Nottingham. Nottingham is my very favorite character. A lethal person but with a lot of depth and torment. I have read all the other reviews about how bad the effects were, etc and I don't agree. I thought the show had a great "look". I thought the way the scenes were shot and the music and everything was excellent. And even though they undid the whole first season in the finale they were able to come back with a second season that was as good as the first. I was sorry to see it end but hopefully whoever is in charge of making the decision will allow it to go to dvd so the fans can enjoy the series for all time.
