Heading off on a trip together, a group of friends decide to investigate the truth about an urban legend involving a killer boy living in an isolated house only to stumble upon the actual killer and must find a way to hold him off and get away alive. This one was quite the fun if slightly-flawed slasher. One of the film's better elements here is that there's a rather strong and traditional set-up that plays into the confines of the genre really well, as the urban-folklore backstory used here is the perfect introduction to the killer. The rather simple nature of the story that's told here and the accompanying flashback telling the story of the family tormenting the lone backpacker before they get ambushed by the posse which turns into a fine bit of vigilante justice that's quite an appropriate set-up here for the killer's background. Once it starts in on the slashing scenes, there's some great fun to be had here with the hulking, deformed killer getting into a nice series of stalking scenes featuring him chasing them around the house, from the opening attack on the lost backpackers to the scenes in the barn going after their new friends as well as the fine chases of the couple down at the lake. The last half hour likewise has some great times here with the discovery of the killer as he slaughters them throughout the house and engages in a brutal fist-fight with their late-arriving friend that's filled with some nice brutal deaths mixed in with some really good chasing, and the moments in the underground den makes for some chilling moments with the darkened location and nauseating conditions of the bodies left down there with the killer right after her is a great finish. Complete with the fine make-up on the killer and some rather fun gore- effects, these here are enough to hold this up over the few flaws present. The biggest issue with the film is the fact that there's just such a bland, overlong first-half filled with absolutely overlong sections here that just eat up running time with them traveling to the house and waiting around the house which offers up very little of anything interesting within here. It's not all that much fun to get the same lame jokes about their friend repeated over and over in here while also featuring nothing of any special interest throughout as the whole section of the running time in here is bland time-wasting scenes that prevent the slashing from happening. That also means the film tends to get rushed through in the finale where it really runs through the kill scenes which mean that they're action-packed yet not really all that creepy or chilling and it comes off as a series of missed opportunities due to the extended first half. The only other issue here is the lack of explanation as for why the killer's been alive all this time out in the bush of wild Australia without anything as far as parental guidance, but otherwise this one wasn't all that bad.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and Nudity.

I joined IMDb just to write this review. I am a big fan of the horror genre, especially slashers. I am shocked that this movie has such a low rating. I assume people who don't appreciate slasher movies are the reason. The story line is pretty typical for a slasher film (it's not a copycat by any means) but that isn't a bad thing in my book. The kill scenes are amazing with believable gore and effects. The acting is surprisingly good for this genre as you really don't expect much from slasher films since character development isn't the point. The only downside to this movie for me was Tara Reid. Her acting is AWFUL. Like I said, I don't expect much in the acting department but her atrocious performance really took away from the movie. I expected more considering she is experienced in acting. Overall I was very pleased with this movie as was my boyfriend, also a fan of the genre. We were laughing, cheering, and had a great time watching. If you are a fan of the slasher genre, definitely watch! If not, don't bother. Sometimes I really feel like ratings should be grouped into two categories: fans of the genre, and non fans. This movie deserves way more than the 4.6 it currently has.

I have watched hundreds of horror movies and I can tell you that this film is very predictable. When I finished watching this I felt as if it could have been much better than it actually was. The actors were fine if nothing else, annoying characters. I could not wait for donkey to die and when he did I predicted the penis being removed by the giant blade wielded by "charlie". Every single death was lovely and Gory.I do love the nod to Kane Hodders other character "Jason" from Of Friday The Thirteenth series. Is that you Jason..yup I approve of that. I even approve the seeming nod to House Of A Thousand Corpses. Giant knife wielding maniac son of "Otis" from The Devil's Rejects jumping on a car and shattering it while someone helpless can seem to only scream. The female characters were so freaking typical. Let us perpetuate the dumb blonde archetype by pandering to audiences. Tara Reid's performance was just fine. It was the constant barrage of the obvious oh this is stupid, oh I have a bad feeling, oh you are an asshole this is so stupid etc etc ad nauseum. My advice....try again because this was not my favorite film. Personally I have an urge to go back and watch Jason vs Freddy.

"Charlie's Farm" could have been a modern-day classic. Undoubtedly designed to take advantage of the increased interest in Australian Horror movies created by "Wolf Creek" the makers have chosen a less cerebral, slasher path here and have come up with a pretty gory film. The storyline is flimsy (pure clichéd slasher movie contents including the clueless pretty blondes and their dickhead boyfriends, locals who tell them "don't go there!", even a campfire scene for telling scary stories, and, of course, gore, gore and even more gore..) and while Bill Moseley shone as Charlie's demented dad, the rest of the cast at best struggled with the task at hand (especially the totally underwhelming performance from Tara Reid - one of the "Home and away" kids could have done better). The effects were delightfully amateurish and I'd love to know how much fake blood they went through! But where the movie fell over was Charlie; his grotesqueness and size was so exaggerated it was funny. In fact when Melanie is running away from Charlie I'm sure she is laughing, not screaming in fear. Whichever way, it was a good watch and my partner and I still laugh about it.
