Wow! What a bizarre film! Unfortunately the few funny moments there were were quite overshadowed by it's completely weird and random vibe throughout.

Go in cold, and you're likely to emerge with your blood boiling. This has to be seen to be believed.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

I don't know why this has such a low score on IMDb, and i don't know why I've never seen it before. I by chance started watching it today, and I've been in tears laughing my butt off all day long watching it. This movie is basically non-stop hilarious idiotic one-liners and absurd vaudeville comedy like scenes. It's very reminiscent of the comedy style of Airplane and all its sequels and the deadpan absurdity of Leslie Nielsen. And it doesn't slow down at all, it actually gets funnier and funnier. I guess this type of comedy isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you liked Airplane, you'll love The Stupids. I gave it a 9 'cause it's just, that, stupid.

The highlight of this embarrassment of contemporary American cinema was the ending credits. I'd prefer to sit through a torture experience worse than Daniel Craig endured in his first bond movie than suffer through an hour and a half of "The Stupids". I'd much rather have my balls tied to a doorknob and slammed hard against that god forsaken wall than have to suffer through this tragic joke of a movie. Whoever directed this movie needs to be ostracized from his profession and exiled in a small shack in Puerto Rico never to have anything to do with the arts again. The fact is was offered on direct TV boggles my mind. Drives me crazy. It should made illegal to even speak of the title. I suppose there is one bright side of "The Stupids". It exemplifies how not to make a good movie, rather a horrifically tragic movie.

No, this movie is not artistic in any way whatsoever. No, the humor isn't all that clever. This movie is just silly, but that was what it was supposed to be in the first place. The basic value of a movie with characters that are completely clueless as to how the world works is that they can create unrealistic situations that are hilarious. Nobody would see a huge red switch, think it was a light switch, realize it doesn't turn on the lights, and keep trying it over and over again, accidentally turning on the "applause" light at a TV studio, but it's very funny to see the reaction of the stereotypical blond actress and the talk show host when the audience claps at inopportune moments. Furthermore, the imagined scene with Christopher Lee as Sender is simply brilliant. To see such a great villainous actor, star from the old Hammer films all the way up to Lord of the Rings, act so seriously as the sinister man plotting to steal the world's garbage is simply hilarious.Yes, very many of the scenes are weak, but they aren't so bad if you remember not to take this film seriously at all.

We loved this movie, but it is unavailable down under, will still keep trying to get a copy, but it was one of those movies that kept us laughing all the time. I bet we can all relate to some of those characters in the movie and at some time in our lives we have done some strange and hilarious things as well. My children loved the movie as well and as I say we cannot get it here anymore which is a shame, will have to wait until it comes on television again. Go The Stupids. Love that movie. I do not know much about the director of The Stupids John Landis, what other movies had he done? I still can't believe it didn't get good ratings, like another movie shown here Rat Race, we loved that as well, goodness what do movie critics want in movies, do they want them to entertain us which The Stupids did, and I for one was entertained, sometimes I think the movie critics are too harsh. Loved the dresses the girls wore too, very 50's, also loved the scene in the planetarium where they think they met up with God. At least we could have a laugh.
