It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Although I've watched this movie three times the only thing that's stuck with me is the scene in which the male protagonist masturbates and ejaculates on the face of his former abuser. It's pretty much the only suggestive and psychologically rich moment in the whole film. There's no penis shown and no "money shot" but, besides "pleasuring himself," the handsome and talented lead also delivers, during that onanistic act, a wrenching monologue simultaneously condemning and rewarding his tormentor, as well as a focused and powerful performance. That intensity is never achieved again. I can't help but think that the film exists solely to deliver that scene and that insight. Since I can't think of another film quite that honest in its exploration of abuse maybe watching the rest of the movie, whose eventual plot machinations are strictly rote, may be worth it. Just not for me.

This is one of the most deeply disturbing films I have ever seen and I see literally EVERYthing from around the globe. The opening scene is one of the most effective and shocking openings ever filmed and the lead actor's performance is perfect. It is not an easy movie to sit through and definitely could give some nightmares in it's unblinking look at what horrible things humans can do to other humans. All the performances are well done and the music and the art direction are extremely powerful. I, myself, was a bit let down by the ending but the build-up, the slow ratcheting of tension and suspicion is very well done. Plus the particular scene where the "lady of the house" is done away with is brutal and very well shot. I have not seen the other films by this director but I will seek them out. For fans of dark, human horror films, this is a must-see.

A truly dark and disturbing movie that must be seen. A man with a dark and sordid past who committed crimes against young boys tries to commit suicide and fails, he is only kept alive by a machine called an iron lung and can't move from the neck down. His wife needs help looking after him as she also has a young daughter to look after and a male nurse applies for the job, despite misgivings from his wife he stays. the film contains some very disturbing moments but I believe everyone should watch this film, it is a true classic and will remain in your thoughts long after you have watched it, I will not say more as i don't want to ruin it for anyone except you owe it to yourself to watch it, and watch it with an open mind. Also if you do get to watch this movie then I recommend you watch El Mar, another brilliant movie well worth seeing.

No doubt about it, IN A GLASS CAGE, once seen, can never be unseen. The notion of sexual abuse being cyclical and corrupting across generations is examined with style, intelligence and originality in this Spanish shocker from the director of MOONCHILD, 99.9 and EL MAR.This is certainly the director's best film and owes a debt to the Italian gialli and Murnau's oeuvre. From the creepy, organic score to the almost operatic camera moves, this little number never misses a beat. It's not for everybody, of course, but it should be seen by as many as possible because it's message is poison.
