Captivating movie !

it is finally so absorbing because it plays like a lyrical road odyssey that’s also a detective story.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

After I patiently endured having Sweet Movie's sexual carnage (that included cruelty, hatefulness, and humiliation) repeatedly ground into my face for 100 minutes - I am now completely convinced that its director/writer, Dusan Makavejev was nothing but an absolute peasant of the lowest calibre.And the degrading, white-trash, gutter-level attitude that prevails throughout this film's storyline proves my accusation against Makavejev to be 100% correct, over and over again.I mean - It really figures that this picture is so vile and sick-minded in nature that one of its most triumphant "highlights" is for the viewer to witness the exuberant celebration of the depiction of multiple bowel movements at close range. (Spare me!)C'mon - Let's face it - Because 1974's "Sweet Movie" is a foreign film - The snobs-of-cinema gloat all over it and self-righteously christen it as being "Art House".But - You can be sure - Had "Sweet Movie" been an American release it would have promptly been reduced to the level of pure "Trash-House" of the trashiest kind.*Note* - I think it's really disturbing to find out that the National Film Board of Canada was actually involved in partially financing this despicable production.

Even though I don't agree with some Makavejev's opinions and conclusions, I, still, believe that people might need to know the following basic ideas of this movie. Sugar is sweet. But it is harsh and deadly for human body and mind.Chocolate is very sweet, tasty, delicious. But it is deadly for human mind.Makavejev's prediction of the end of cult of sugar 15 years before it happened is very impressive.But what about the chocolate cult?You have been eating chocolate all your life. And you are sure you are OK. But are you really thinking you are ALIVE?

One of the best movies ever made. Subversion at its best. Destruction of American cinema. Thanks Makavejev and Muhuel. Great job. Highly recommended for a mind altering cinematic experience. People with blocked minds and lovers of American commercial cinema beware. This is not some high end Mission impossible with plastic gadgets and special effects. This is not a story with a plot and stupid narration. This is the real thing folks. Watch it if you dare to. Go for it. Enjoy. Highly recommended to open minds and understand the power of cinema. Also other makavejev's movies like mysteries of the organism. Expect the unexpected. To make a movie like this you have to be like a mad scientist.

What happened in Normandy? What happened in Stalingrad? Was it all an international conspiracy? The kind of film that makes you suspicious if Nazis had actually won the war. Makes you paranoid. There are even excerpts from a Nazi propaganda footage in it of the Katyn massacre. How convenient? How convenient indeed.It is allegorical. It is avant-garde. Its artistic value is relative to taste and my opinion, which is of course inherently subjective, is this is as much artistic as Salvador Dali's bottom.We get the analogy. It is not what you would call subtle. The men and boys lured into the Karl Marx boat full of sweets. The rich defiling the innocent and pure. A man reborn covered in urine and feces (the kind of image that will stay with you for a very long time).Of course you may want to watch it. The way you may want to watch a snuff film. Of course you may like this. The way you may like watching a man shoot himself.
