Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

We're in front of our typical slasher film; good guy dies in a freak accident, then comes back to life turned into an evil killing machine. The plot is really simple, so I'm pretty sure you're not going to miss anything and get lost/confused in the middle of the flick. We also have our group of characters; the girl who is recovering from several traumatic experiences, the guy who's trying to win said girl's love back, the bimbo, the tough guy, the funny guy and the Regina George wannabe. It's a pretty overused formula, but in this case it works; the characters are likable and you find yourself rooting for them but at the same time, thinking about which one of them is going to get the nastiest demise next.Even though I'm not the kind of guy who gets scared by slasher movies, I did with this one. The atmosphere was great, it was dark and intriguing; the surroundings were obscure (with the exception of the party at the lagoon and the gas station scene where the girls go for some fuel), those aspects helped the movie a lot and honestly, I can't think of any other place better for the story than the swamps of Louisiana; they nailed it at this one.The killings were really gruesome (as expected), the sequences were mostly intense, like the one at the grandmother's house and the last fight between our leading lady and the villain. The acting was really good for this kind of film and the effects were nicely done; oh! and the addition of Rob Zombie's ''Two Lane Blacktop'' was good, because let's be honest, at the end of the day what is a slasher movie without rock music? All things said, it's a really entertaining flick with a good dose of gore, creepy imagery and good looking actors. If you're looking for an intelligent, mind-blowing, original kind of film, stay away from this; but if you're in it just for the blood and guts, this is for you!If you find yourself with some free time in your hands and don't know what to do, ignore the ratings and go for it! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

The idea of this flick looked promising, and even as the story has been told before it's always tricky to involve snakes into a horror story because there are two ways you can make this flick, with real snakes like Ssssss (1973) or as done with so many with CGI. Then you have again two ways to make it, exaggerate the length of the snake or try to make it believable. Here they tried to make the snakes believable. Didi it work, well, somehow it did but bringing in Voodoo concerning the snakes is were this flick goes a bit wrong. Being bitten by snakes you would guess he would turn into a snake somehow but it wasn't, He becomes a killer with enormous strength, and it's only toward the end that snakes do appear out of the killer's body and the voodoo comes back in.So we do have two stories, a killer on the loose and snakes being involved into the way the killer is created. For me that didn't worked out that fine. Oh yes, there are moments were brutality is used against the victims and sure there are moments that are fine but to say this is wow, I can't. Just above mediocre.Gore 1/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2,5/5 Story 2,5/5 Comedy 0/5

This movie had elements of House of the Dead, especially with Ray and the crypt at the end and was actually even worse then House of the Dead which I didn't even think was possible! Especially the ending which was the most unintelligent crap I have ever witnessed in my life. There were no good kills, no satisfying resolutions or character development, no sympathizing relationships, just a really stupid movie. This was not horror, this was just horrible.Great horror movies are out there, many from South Korea and these days actually literally blow this crap to dust. Two words sum up this movie and the latest horror movie trend from Hollywood: So dumb.I miss Nightmare on Elm Street 1 and 3, where a plot was built and the creepiness unreality was an atmosphere unto itself! Halloween 1 and 2. Friday the 13th's very early beginnings had the right mood to really freak ya out. A Tale of Two Sisters, the original Dark Water not the remake, the original Ring 0 and even verbinski's The Ring was nice. Where have all the scary movies gone? Theonly scary movie I've been looking forward to in the last 2 years is SAW II. Though for sheer fun, The Hazing was pretty good.

It could have been a simple, mean guy comes back from the dead for revenge theme, but that was Jason and Freddy's territory. This movie was just lame. I honestly laughed every time that black girl opened her mouth talking about voo-doo crap. Does a slasher film even need an angle? Can't it just be a gas station owner going crazy and killing some teenagers? Why monologue us to death with the magic garbage? It ruined the movie. The kills were sort of creative. The killer was surprisingly determined, ripping a house apart to kill them, but then that black girl started talking hocus-pocus... I smiled when she died, as every other black person in this movie dies. I'm serious, every single black person. That's not even really a spoiler, since it's extremely common for minorities and promiscuous women to die, dating back to Night of the Living Dead in 1968. As I said, it could have been a good movie. That's why I liked Scream so much, just two teenagers, a typical Halloween costume, and kitchen knife. So simple, yet so perfect. When will Hollywood learn?
