At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

Paul, a normal man engaged with Karen, gets an unexpected hangover after his bachelor party and ends up in bed with a girl whom he doesn't remember. From that moment, he's going to encounter a series of difficulties which will make him rethink his relationship and his way of life. This movie, with its common and so many times used plot, although it had potential, manages to be a yawn-making and head-scratching machine. At some point tends to be serious and then the very next one becomes a parody. It has so many moments which make absolutely no sense in this movie, like Becky's psycho cop girlfriend who always comes into the picture just to spoil it without any reason. And the way the whole idea was treated...I really wasted time with this movie and I'm actually sorry for actors like Julia Stiles who end up in such "films".To be honest with you, if it wasn't for her and the fact that the movie managed to make me laugh a couple of times, we'd be talking about a much lower rating

Let's try to write about a movie after months of watching it. I've had such a wonderful time while it. I believe watching a romantic comedy from the 2000s became such a risky matter, you don't know what would happen or be shown of horrible images since (There's Something about Mary) or (American Pie) which are the romantic comedy's mentors of the era! But this movie was a nice surprise, and nothing like what I feared of initially (hidden dirty meaning in its title!). I believe this is one script to honor. It utilized some colorful characters and fancy ironies, using many smart techniques (the continuous reveries for instance). There is a creative spirit behind every scene, a smart detail with every moment (the singing course at the end), and a real droll situations (the Odyssey of losing the photos). Save the easy ending, this is without a doubt a confirmation that (Greg Glienna) is enjoyable screenwriter, as his other works (Meet the Parents) and (Meet the Fockers) were nothing but "Meet the Pain" for me. Actually it's hard to believe that the 3 got one writer, and it's just an insult to say that this movie is far and away better than those 2 sins because it's far and away to compare it to them in the first place. The whole characters, even the little roles, were blessed by good people with performance that hit the mark right ; (Julie Hagerty) from the 1980s' (Airplane) movies is one high memorable point in here as the nice mom, and this movie got me to love (James Brolin) finally in something; it's a miracle ! He was that pompous idiot all along. The pace was fast, and the directing is fine yet as a TV work, it wasn't as crazy as the events sometimes and lacked some emotional feel as well, though the climax was perfect. (Jason Lee) is the best example if you want to summarize the cleverness and the loveliness of this movie. I only hated, and I mean HATED!, (Julia Stiles), she unlike the movie was so cold and frigid, let alone being anything but a comedienne or an effective part in a comedy, so how about being the lead's love interest?, in fact she was totally uninteresting !. I believe the romantic comedy lives a poor age at the 2000s, but small movies like this with low budget and not very famous names managed to outclass anything bigger (or accurately looks bigger !). So, (A Guy Thing - 2003) along with a few ones like (Get Well Soon - 2001), (Just Friends - 2005); with (Julie Hagerty) as the good light-hearted mom also, represented the best of what the American cinema could make at that genre lately. Thank god there wasn't one fart joke in it!

A young man named Paul (Jason Lee) is on the verge of marriage. At his bachelor party he meets a dancing "tiki girl" named Becky (Julia Stiles) as part of the hooting and hollering bedlam. Romantic complications ensue.Set in Seattle, the film does have a few things going for it. Both Jason Lee and Julia Stiles give nice performances. Both the film editing and the color cinematography are professionally well done. There are some funny lines of dialogue. And I liked the sequence that has a band playing "Born Free"; what's amusing here is that the song is so humorously out of place. But the film's concept is not exactly original; and the ending is predictable. The plot moves along rather weakly, owing to contrived coincidences and to Paul's far-fetched lies. Most of the characters are highly animated, but also stereotyped. The Jim character, for example, is your typical college-aged frat rat; he mutters dialogue that is mostly banal, like: "Paul, listen to me ... we're men; we're hunters; it's encrypted in our DNA code; you gotta accept that, buddy".Despite a weak script, "A Guy Thing" is not bad, especially if you want a movie that does not require heavy-duty thinking. The story lacks both subtlety and thematic depth; what you see and hear is what you get. But that's not unusual for a romantic comedy. As such, the film could be summarized as mildly entertaining cinematic fluff.

Paul (Jason Lee) is an underachiever who just happens to be engaged to a type-A princess named Karen (Selma Blair). She chooses his clothes and his daily schedule. At his bachelor party, Paul gets a little too drunk and somehow ends up taking a pretty dancer named Becky (Julia Stiles) back to his digs. "Nothing happened", as they say, but the duo do wake up in the same bed. Suddenly Karen telephones. She's on her way to Paul's apartment. Understandably, Paul hustles Becky out of the place, although her underpants are left behind. But, there is even more fun ahead. At a family dinner at Karen's parents' home, Paul runs smack into Becky again, learning that she is Karen's cousin. Talk about some explaining to do! But, instead, Paul chooses to feign a stomach problem and hides out in the bathroom. Will Karen ever find out that Becky spent the night at Paul's place? And, what will be the consequences? I'm sorry for critics who pan movies like this. They should definitely lighten up, for this film is fresh and fun. Of course, it doesn't hurt matters that Lee is a consummate funny man, Stiles is a charming beauty or that Blair is a natural as a pretty but anal fiancée. The rest of the cast, including James Brolin and Julie Haggerty, is also quite nice. The look of the film is wonderful, as are the costumes and California settings. Best of all, the script is imaginative and inspired, creating big laughs for the audience. In short, if you want to tickle the proverbial funnybones, get this movie tonight. It may not be Academy Award material but it is absolutely guaranteed to turn a bad day into a darn good one.
