Them (2007)

Yawn. Poorly Filmed Snooze Fest.

To me, this movie is perfection.

This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.

It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

I fell asleep several times trying to get through this. Hard to believe a couple of adults couldn't successfully fend off unarmed children. At one point, the adult male is climbing on a ladder, and the child above him starts stomping on his hands, trying to get him to fall off. Stubbornly, the adult continues to try to hang onto the rung where he's being stomped. Here are a couple of ideas - grab the brat's leg and toss him to the ground, or at the very least, move down a rung or two so you aren't being stomped on any longer. And then, after having watched the child stomping her husband, instead of the wife (who was above the child) stomping him off the ladder, she just runs off. STUPID! Anyway, if you want to watch an hour and a half (or whatever it was) of a couple of incompetent adults being chased through the woods, have at it. Or you can make better use of your time by catching up on your sleep (which you'll end up doing anyway, so why waste the electricity).

It will probably come as no surprise that I loved this movie. This is completely stripped down French horror — no wild special effects, no overbearing music, no overdone dialogue. It just relies on the natural panic that ensues from watching two people be terrorized for no discernible reason in their own home.The opening scene — both bewildering and terrifying in a raw way — sets up a tension that will last throughout the entire movie. The car driving by unsuspectingly as she is strangled in the van highlights something that is really scary to me, which is, ultimately, the reality that things like this do happen out in the every day world and occasionally we are none the wiser to it happening right near us. It's tied together when Clémentine (played by Olivia Bonamy) drives by the same van being towed the following afternoon — she has no idea how connected that moment will be to what will ensue later.She shares a nice evening with her husband, Lucas (played by Michaël Cohen), before things start going terribly wrong. What at first seems like a simple car theft turns into them being chased and traumatized by unknown pursuers. It's the mystery behind it all that draws me into home invasion horrors like this — who are these people? Why have they targeted us? What do they want? You don't see any of the assailants until the very last scenes of the movie, and for a while you aren't 100% certain if they are even fully human — they manage to be nowhere and yet everywhere, popping up unexpectedly, and they only emit strange chirping and rattling noises rather than any normal sounds.I had some frustrations with Clémentine's slow moving at some points, characteristic in many stalker/slasher films. Like when she's in the attic space surrounded by sheets of hanging plastic and one of the attackers is hurling a wooden board to find where she is… and yet she still creeps slowly around looking for them. C'MON now.It's also been said in other reviews that the plot is basic and the characters aren't fleshed out much, but honestly I think it's a fair and worthy trade for this movie having only a 77 minute run time. It's quick and to the point — not knowing every last detail about the couple and their relationship adds to the anonymity of the movie as a whole. It's also based on a true story (supposedly an Austrian couple who were murdered by three teenagers while vacationing in Romania), so perhaps the directors/writers, David Moreau and Xavier Palud, kept it vague on purpose.They manage to get loose from the house and are chased through the surrounding woods by an unknown number of attackers. Again, the guttural noises, clicking, and rattling only add to the feeling of these people not being quite human, whether that's meant in a literal or figurative sense. There's real panic and some moments of humanity within the last couple scenes, and the ending — which I won't spoil for you — is truly chilling and unexpected. Well done indeed.

(Credit to IMDb) Lucas and Clementine live peacefully in their isolated country house, but one night they wake up to strange noise... they're not alone... and a group of hooded assailants begin to terrorize them throughout the night.This movie has plenty of creepy moments, I won't deny that. It's extremely well-acted, suspenseful, well-direction, and filled with tension. Despite all that it has going for it, I felt something was missing. Maybe it was all the hype it got from horror fans and I expected much more. Either way, I was slightly disappointed. Don't expect much gore in this one. This movie isn't about that. It's pretty old-fashioned, relying on storytelling and suspense. The two movies get compared a lot, so I may as well compliment on that. I felt The Strangers did a better job with thrills and overall. The Strangers truly scared me! This one most certainly kept me on the edge of my seat, but I wasn't truly scared. I didn't care for the ending either. Credit to Olivia Bonamy & Michaël Cohen for being likable leads that I was able to root for. I did LIKE this movie, but I didn't love it. I don't think it's as good as everyone says it is. If you ignore the hype, you should get a suspenseful horror movie. That's what it is! nothing more. That's far from being a bad thing. 6.6/10

This was re-watch, I wasn't to keen on first time around, I think I did see Vacnacy before this and Eden lake both - with both of these movies were kind put together in way.Again I felt the same with this movie, I thought it started of tense at first and theit's stays on the same level for most of the movie, it never fully moves forward and I wasn't bored with it. I thought it had noting to hold and I am not sure if were meant to shock and when it's revealed what was doing the stalking. I wasn't shocked, I Know kids have been nasty but I do believe these think can happen, like some kids brought whole of UK to standstill few years back in riots, with a loss of two lives.There were something missing in this movie, there was edge enough, the trailer seem a lot edge of seat kind of thing. I thought the acting was really good not great and I do think some of subs were bit off, on what was playing on screen. I going give this 5 out of 10,.
