A waste of 90 minutes of my life

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

The story-telling is good with flashbacks.The film is both funny and heartbreaking. You smile in a scene and get a soulcrushing revelation in the next.

let's start by saying this....let's hope the writer, director and producer quit the industry and went back to making subs at Subway. 'cause this movie was extremely hard to watch to the end from the poor lines to the cheesy effects to the complete destruction of the world that this movie is supposed to be based on, I'm surprised they found financial backers. but, I suppose to saying goes..there's a sucker born every minute. when news of this movie came out, I was very excited. the world and universe that was created for the books, role playing and miniature games are very rich and exciting. a lot of the technology made sense, there wasn't all the "lasers, blasters and ray guns" of other sci-fi franchises. it's a dirty, gritty reality where a lot of the times the hero doesn't survive nor make a big difference in the ultimate outcome. so, with knowing what the source material was about, I was quite excited. then this abortion came along. poor CGI effects, EXTREMELY poor weapons and effects, poor spoken lines...the dialogue made me want to weep. then there's the MASSIVE changes that came with it. changes to the weapons, technology, the heroes and villains. everything was changed so dramatically, I'm amazed they could still retain the rights to call this the Mutant chronicles. overall, this movie was given the 1 it earned. what is REALLY sad is it had an excellent cast. Tomas Jane made a great Mitch Hunter, even though the character was almost unrecognizable. the other actors and actresses did a great job trying to save this sinking ship, but eve with their frantic bailing, it still sank and became the utter shipwreck it is.

Wow - reviews are all over the place on this one. It seems that those that write scathing reviews are always comparing movies they hate to a classic from some other time....what's up with that? If the movie was hyped to the extreme and falls flat, it deserves ridicule. If not, what is the sense in spoiling it for everyone else. Movies, and the watching of them, are personal experiences. Unless there is some uncontrollable need to post vitriol in order to sound perceptive and "intelligrnt, just STFU. I caught it by accident about a year ago late at night, and have watched it very time it's been on since. While it does have it's share of goofy moments, I find the overall tone in the sets and characters to be perfect for the story - dark, stark, and depressing, easily portraying the despair that would exist under such conditions. The use of matte conveyed the supposed age of the subterranean world exceptionally well. All in all, a good watch.PS: After reading dozens of posts, I am shocked that no one commented on the final scene - the alien vessel heading for....MARS.

Watching this movie was sort of like watching "Sucker Punch" not really shocked this is based off of a video game a little. I am surprised at some of the actors that showed up in this movie. The soldiers look like they are from WW2 even the era seems the same except few high tech machines. It's obvious this movie had a very limited budget cause the special effects doesn't look all that realistic, but on a positive note I like the style of this movie. It seemed like a mix between a graphic novels and video games. The direction of it all including the characters seemed very video game like and not really in a good way either. The story is basically about a group of video game like soldiers trying to win against mutant zombies that know how to kill and pilot steam-powered spaceships. There is many scenario in this movie that makes little to no sense, especially a lot of the elements in this movie. The team members are pretty generic like some video game characters and even have dialogues that is similar to some video game characters. The plot is very simple when it gets down to it, but tries to be more complex than it really is. It still had my attention and didn't get really or anything like that, and kept my eyes on the screen all the way through it.6/10

This is definitely one of the best, all-out sci-fi action movies i have ever seen, with all the characteristics of a classic B-Movie; static characters, simple yet effective plot, actually good one-liners, super-digital CGI (helps give the classic feel), and best of all; enough bloody, nasty, and violent action that makes this a great watch! Out of all the characters, Thomas Jane's performance is actually quite good, filling in the shoes of a good character that you can remember and come to like, surprisingly. The run time is good, doesn't drag anything out, but one BIG disappointment was the special "Director's Cut" released on DVD; it's not nearly as good as the theatrical version!! But even so, this is a definite must watch for all sci-fi/action/horror fans because in the end, this movie is a fun ride that needs no expectations except to know that the action and suspense cover for all the flaws 7.5/10 Stars***
