This is a pretty shoddy outing from all concerned, and probably something that very few of the protagonists in front of and behind the camera will ever want to highlight on their CV. I would say it was a shockingly bad film but there's no shock. I've been lent the DVD by a friend and it's been sat next to the TV for a couple of years, so low were my expectations, but in the end one Saturday afternoon I managed to sit through it all, hence a slightly generous 4/10. It was less bad than I thought! All it is missing really is a storyline and a grain of originality, and it's about as "real" and "gritty" as a royal wedding, but if you're here for oiled male physiques, violence, MTV style sex and drugs (and I'm guessing you are) then it's going to fine. They must have snorted a trainload of coke while making it, but at least I can at last hand back the box to my friend and say "I have watched it".

i don't know why the critics have to be so cruel with multi-talented people like mickey Rourke. Rourke who co-wrote the script of this movie gave one of the most believable performances of his career, on the other hand we got very cool Photography that really reflects the harsh reality of the drug underworld in the US. the film had a great acting ensemble with Adrien Brody, John Enos III, Mathew Powers, Jerry Dean with a cameo from Tupac as the villain and especially Ted Levine who is a scene stealer in this film. besides the script focuses on a lot of things like family friends brotherhood and redemption furthermore the movie has a powerful message for every drug addict in the world. so the conclusion is that this is one of the most realistic crime movies ever made with great photography and performances so anyone who was afraid to watch this film because of the *beep* critics, just give it a try and you won't regret it.

I think bullet was one of the best movies I have seen. It wasn't about your typical African American gangsters. It was about a white Jewish kid who was very talented and bright, but went the wrong way due to the streets, drugs, people he hung out with and the simple fact that the family was your hardworking, struggling, middle class inner-city Americans in NY. The character who should have been nominated for every possible award was the brother Luis(played by Ted Levine). The movie is worth seeing just for his performance. ALthough he is a left-over from the Vietnam war, he is totally insane, but you have this compassion for him. He truly loves his family and brother and that shows in the final few clips of the movie. You can't help but get choked-up when he and the family were attending Bullet Stiens funeral and the brother, Luis, is standing in full military officers garb at attention with the dog. At the final moment of the scene, you can see a tear drop run down Luis's(Ted Levine's) cheek. (SPOILER COMING UP!!!!!!) In the next scene, he cuts Tanks(Tu-PAC) throat using his military training(same training he gave the neighborhoods kids in previous scenes). You get a sense that he is crazy, but is well aware of the situation. ALL in ALL an excellent movie. How about the scene were Lester is the bathroom with the two women in the toilet stall and he is screaming out"Who's the best looking Mutha F***er in this place?!?!?!". A total classic scene/line.

I saw this movie in the beginning of 1998 for the very first time. It was on TV and I never heard it was in movie theaters, that's why it struck me - is that Mickey Rourke? He played this ex con... with a serious heroin problem and his paranoid brother... trying to get a new life, but somehow getting tired of not getting anywhere. The sinister, dark atmosphere only amplifies this spiral "not getting anywhere" except for the places where he has already been.I must say it's a very good movie about life. I'm not surprised it was so underrated. Americans want energetic criminals who know what they are doing, who are invincible... or either succeed or get killed. Rourke however is a criminal... a criminal addicted to heroin with a demented brother... with no money, and no chance of getting out of it. Just like a life of a criminal really is.I recommend this movie to European fans as it is very European, even though it was made in USA. Again - very good.
