It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

Maybe I just watch too many DTV sequels and my expectations are low, but I don't think this movie's that bad at all - it's short and fast-paced and coherent, which puts it above a lot of terrible horror sequels. The acting isn't too bad and they actually try for some character development. It delivers on the over-the-top gore from the first one and throws in some gratuitous nudity for good measure. It's not a perfect movie - the action is underwritten and the finale is anticlimactic, but there's interesting ideas here and the movie is surprisingly ahead of its time.I really don't get why people complain this one is "too different" from the first one, when it's a textbook "legacy sequel", i.e. a soft reboot/remake which has the same exact plot as the first one with a character from the original (Feldman) showing up in a supporting role. (This was obviously years ahead of Creed or Tron Legacy). Also here, the main character gets a gender swap (from angsty teenage boy to angsty teenage girl), and another huge character from the original shows up for one shot at the very end to end us on a cliffhanger. So yes, this is totally "The Force Awakens" of The Lost Boys franchise. In fact, I'd argue if this movie never came out, and they were to theatrically remake The Lost Boys today with a big budget, it would probably end up very, very similar to this. Not a must-see by any means, and nowhere as stylish or as fun as the original, but you can do much, much worse.

Lost Boys: The Tribe held a decent amount of potential for me, as someone that doesn't hold any strong feelings towards the original Lost Boys at all. I went into this film with no strings attached not having to brace my self for the worst. After all was said and done i left the film feeling moderately satisfied, with the thought that over-all the film felt inconsequential. The film looks decent enough on it's obviously low budget, but in a time of low budget horror classics like What We Do In the Shadow, there's no reason why it shouldn't.The biggest problem with the film is that, at It's core it has a poorly conceived script. There's absolutely nothing original in this film, everything you think is going to happen, happens! There's zero tension, and most of the gore/kills are generic to say in the least. The acting Is about standard for this type of film, Corey Feldman does a decent job of reviving his character Edgar Frog from the first film. Tad Hilgenbrink and Autumn Reeser do the best they can with a very limited script as brother and sister Chris and Nicole. Angus Sutherland plays the new bad boy lead vampire Shane. He's un-engaging and lacks any and all the charisma his half brother Kiefer Sutherland had in the original. It has been over twenty years since the original. The fact that this is the best the screenwriters could conjure up is very poor on their part. At best for a non fan of the original, it was an average, generic ninety minute vampire flick, that left me feeling unmoved. Whilst i found the film passable, i can understand why fans of the original are Incredibly disappointed with it.

Siblings Chris (Tad Hilgenbrink) and Nicole Emerson (Autumn Reeser) move to Luna Bay after their parents' death. Aunt Jillian charges them $650/month to rent a rundown house. Chris leaves his address at Edgar Frog (Corey Feldman)'s trailer hoping to work for the board shaper. Chris is a surfer and he's invited to a party by legendary surfer Shane Powers (Angus Sutherland). Shane is the leader of a band of surfing vampire douches. Nicole begs to go to the party and gets turned into a half-vampire. Edgar tells Chris that Nicole will turn full vampire after her first kill unless they kill the vampire leader. This is a B-movie sequel to the cult-classic 1987 original. It's an inferior product. The actors are inferior. The production is inferior. Surprisingly, Corey Feldman is a bright spot reprising his role as Edgar Frog. I like the transformation into the world-weary vampire hunter. The douche vampires are not as cool. The siblings don't have the same child endangering tension or charm. It's an inferior movie overall.

I'd like to say something really wonderful about this film, but I don't want to lie.If you really liked the original Lost Boys film, you may like this. If you enjoy pain and suffering, you may really enjoy this movie. The only memorable scene is at the end where the aunt/landlady is ready to throw the pair out.The rest of it is male bravado, yelling, attempted intimacy, partying, and all the things that are supposed to get you to believe that this is more than a hurried shuffle of a script with some new elements added. It could be worse, and that's the one good thing I can say about this film.
