The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

This movie is pretty much wall to wall gore, in marked contrast to the original. Yet I found myself really involved in its pacing, in the cinematography and even the lighting. It's not a slapdash affair. After the critical and financial failure of this film, Bob Clark began work on a sequel to the original with Olivia Hussey and John Saxon reprising their roles of Jess and Lt. Ken Fuller. Jess would have been the new house mother in this version, but Clark died before it could get made.Despite the pain that it took to make the film, I really think it's worth watching. It shouldn't take over for the original, but it's worth your time this holiday season.

To the fans of this movie, I like some stuff of the movie like the kills are neat, it's gory, the cast is decent, and the origin story okay to be honest. This movie is bad, I'd expect to like this film but just the bad acting, slow pace, and mediocre story ruined it for me. And this guy name Billy like he look like a Simpson because of his yellow skin. Billy's mom in the movie gave a terrible performance, I know she tried but still. Beside the mom rape his son off camera! WHAT THE HELL?! I almost gave this movie a 1 but I like some things in the film so 2 is a desirable rating. The phone call scene is like a rip off of Scream, I guess this is a Halloween plus a bit of Scream then you get this movie. I haven't watch the original but if I did, I bet it's better. The acting is terrible like cheap porn give better performances then this film. I wish I didn't watch this on Christmas. (I finally watch the unrated version and it's better. Still the same movie though).Score for unrated cut: 7/10

I watched the original film for the first time not too long ago and really enjoyed it. I saw the 2006 installment right when it came out but couldn't really remember it. I'm very into horror films though so I decided it was time for a rewatch to see if this could be more enjoyable the second time around. I do like horror movies revolving around a holiday, it doesn't happen that often but it really should. This film is a loose remake of the original, that takes place in a sorority house. The film follows a group of girls who are being hunted down by a yellow skinned killer named Billy Lenz. He is a murdered who broke out of prison and is looking for his sister at the same house the girls currently inhabit. The film becomes a slasher film where the body count increases while the blood is splattered everywhere. The film is very violent. Eyes get gauged out, heads get pierced, multiple stabbing occurs, heads roll, its all very bloody. Its not very holiday friendly but who the hell cares. If you are squeamish during these types of films, this won't be for you. The story isn't really exactly strong, there aren't any really scary moments, nor is the end something groundbreaking or unpredictable. The film follows conventional horror tropes and norms when you really get past the ultra violent nature.Overall, its a throwaway film and not really anything you'll be visiting during Christmas or Halloween for that matter. The film does offer a nice cast of pretty ladies (loving me some Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and good violence. Its predictable and generic but you get some bloody fun out of it, which is the intention of this film. No need to compare to the original, let it stand on its own.6/10

No one watching this could argue there is anything remotely resembling an original idea here. From the killers "motivations", to the method in which the victims are dispatched, we've all seen it before. It was a nice touch to have a back story told through flashbacks, but the emphasis there was on the disturbing scenes for the sake of shock, and not on explaining motivation, which we simply have to cobble together on our own. Despite this lack of information most will guess the killers identity before the end. Having one killer "unknown" while the other is seen committing his murders leaving no hint of mystery is a nice touch though. They got a lot of talented actresses to appear in this schlock, I can only assume they were all going through dry patches in their careers. From a technical point of view I can't fault it. Scenes are shot well, editing is good, but the cant make up for the overall feel of the movie, which is the afore mentioned lack of originality. I know this is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, and even stars one of the original actors, but the question I have is, did this film really need to be remade? I don't believe so, and I think it's a symptom of the lazy and over all lack of originality sweeping the American movie industry now. As a rule of thumb, I no longer bother with remakes or sequels when they come out and only see them later, if they get great reviews.
