Don't Believe the Hype
To all those who have watched it: I hope you enjoyed it as much as I do.
One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
URBAN LEGENDS: BLOODY MARY is the third and final film in the weak trilogy, which has been a disappointment since the start (but at least the first in the series was a 'proper' slasher movie, unlike the sequels). This time around, the series takes a supernatural detour as a bunch of students are menaced by a vengeful spirit of the past in various scenes which are ripped off from THE RING, as per usual. Kate Mara is the fresh-faced lead and pretty good too, which is no surprise given that she's go on to much greater things since her role in this. The rest is a bundle of clichés, poorly scripted dialogue, cheesy CGI death scenes, and water-treading.
Spoiler Alert!!! I liked this movie despite all of the plot holes in the movie. I liked how it was directed by the same girl who directed Pet Semetary which is an awesome horror movie. The only thing that really bothered me about this movie was the fact that they killed off the brother, David I mean he was the most likable character besides the lead. And at the end the sister didn't even seem concerned about her brother. I mean the villain even mentions that he's dead at the end. The film is pretty cool about these twin siblings trying to solve the mysterious deaths of all of these popular kids at their school. Little by little they learn the history about the murdering ghost. I'm surprised this film has that low of a rating because this film was directed by the same person who did Pet Semetary and that movie to me was kind of boring at times. This movie however is even more entertaining than Pet Semetary. Overall I give this film a 6 out of 10.
I had always been interested in the legend of Bloody Mary since I was in the Fourth Grade. My friend told me about this movie she was creeped out about and I looked it up on Wikipedia (without giving myself spoilers of course) and wanted to watch it. I'm on vacation to see my family, and my cousin happened to come with me, and we rent movies every night. Urban Legends: Bloody Mary happened to be available for rent, so in my eagerness to watch it, we rented it. I fully expected it to focus around a mirror and the witch within, but I was surprised and disappointed straight after the first scene with Mary's death.Bloody Mary is supposed to be a witch who was killed in front of a mirror. I was disappointed that there was only one scene with a mirror. I was disappointed that the girls chanted her name thrice IN THEIR ROOM with it completely lit up. Mary wasn't supposed to be drugged and locked in a box; she was supposed to be killed in front of a mirror. Her main appearance is supposed to take place in a bathroom and in a mirror, not just appearing like that behind a house.Being a fan of horror movies and watching them every night, I was completely disappointed with this one. Take my advice and watch this; only if you like this kind of plot line.
First off, I must say I am a fan of the URBAN LEGEND series, but this is probably the worst. Like I said in the title, the deaths are great. (Such as a girl who peels off her face to find spiders crawling around in her skull, and the bottle slashing scene, which was not show actually the aftermath, in which we would have seen a brutally murdered asshole bitchy typical jock). The characters were, believable and the best actress I thought was the lead, Kate Mara. The plot was ridiculous. Mary Banner is accidentally killed, so she kills the daughter/sons of the people involved...? And the human killer at the end is retarded, but not expected. All in all the plot was shitty I would recommend people who love gore to see this.
