This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

It is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film

Great story. Great movie all in all, seeing the effort that was put in to get the dog back was something that is pretty inspiring, the dads speech to her before the time she does start working hard to get it back, I will warn you will want to make you work towards any goals you have! Ha But all in all a rollercoaster of emotions, with a great movie and a great story

The star here is the German Shepherd, Rex, who pretty much steals the movie. Through the years, I have had a few dogs, and many Shepherds. Rex is right up there with Lassie and Rin Tin Tin. The human element is carried by Kate Mara, as the marine who joined the military to escape a life with no direction. The dog gave her some direction in life and they were a team of bomb detectors who were sent to Iraq and both human and animal won medals for bravery and eventually were separated by circumstance. Kate and Rex have excellent chemistry, and although the story is nothing new as far as war films go, in the end I really cared for them and wished for a happy ending. This could have been perfect for family viewing except for one scene outside of a bar after a night of too much beer. Miss Mara needs to use a restroom, but uses a side walk instead. Other than that brief warning and some occasional strong language, I believe that kids can overcome those slight misstep and watch this with their parents.

You can see what the film is about. WATCH IT is all I'd say.Main thing for me was it never got sickly or clichéd. None of the usual tricks were used in this film that are often used in movies like this. It never got "Hollywoody" if that makes sense? It's a film set in tough circumstances and the people were tough in the face of hard times. The balance between this and human emotions was perfect.Kate Mara is simply fantastic in this.First film in a long long time that made me shed a tear or two. Could and probably will watch again

Megan Leavey is a biographical war drama film starring Kate Mara. Based on the true story of Corporal Megan Leavey and her bomb sniffer dog Rex, it is a humble depiction of one's love and loyalty for their animal companion during times of war and the desire to find their place in society. After signing up for the US Marines, corporal Megan Leavey (Kate Mara) is paired with a bomb sniffing dog named Rex. Initially, Rex is hostile and aggressive toward any other marine who trains with him, but over time he and Megan form a special bond with one another and he eventually saves her life when the two are deployed to Iraq. The film is respectful to its subject matter and never feels too sappy or sentimental. It successfully shows that not only are humans risking their lives out in the Middle East but also the specially-trained dogs as well. Animal lovers will certainly be moved by the bravery of Rex as he risks being blown up from sniffing for explosives out in the Iraqi desert. Kate Mara gives a solid, believable performance in the title role, and her bonding scenes with Rex always feel genuine. The one major issue I have is that the film does follow the typical formulaic plot of someone sharing a bond with an animal that no one else is able to. However, considering this is based on a true story, it is excusable for the most part.I rate it 7.5/10
