One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

This movie is a triple threat of film excellence. Well written and well directed by Malcolm D. Lee and well acted by the all star ensemble cast just like a classic movie should be. Taye Diggs was brilliant and the energy with the fellas especially Terrence Howard's performance was spit on. And when Monica Calhoun's character died. OMG! There wasn't a dry eye in the packed house. I can't say enough good things about the movie and I didn't think that my brothers and sisters and the crowds of my church going people who went to see opening night thought it would be on another level like it was but it really was taking film making and storytelling to a deeper heart felt emotional level. I think it was the most underrated movie of the weekend box office when it came out and even still made a good opening weekend gross. Still I think that it should have been way more successful and got more buzz and the only reason that it didn't and that more people didn't go see it was that they thought it was a movie only for us black folks. Which is sad that America has this bias. I mean I don't go see a Bradley Cooper movie and think its just a movie just for white folks. It should be about the quality of the story the acting and the art of making films but that's just my thoughts about it. I'm just glad more high quality movies are being made with African Americans in the Lead.

Not every sequel does carry a number in its title. I still have to admit that I didn't watch "The Best Man". But you do get up to speed (literally) at the beginning of the movie, when you see events that I can only guess happened during part 1 (all through the credits of the movie that is). It's a nice touch, though we do get people talking about the past in more than one occasion. The movie is a bit melodramatic and it can be predictable at times, but that does not take away any of the impact of the story (unless you let it impact it). The acting is more than fine, actually pretty good.

Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Regina Hall, Terrence Howard, Nia Long and Harrold Perrineau. OH! And Monica Calhoun. Oohhhhh Monica Calhoun. This cast is super charismatic and man are they beautiful! They all feel very natural acting together. I would believe they are all very close outside of acting jobs.Okay. Let's get one thing straight real quick. THIS MOVIE IS NOT A COMEDY. I know, I know. The previews lead you to believe it's a lighthearted, funny, Christmas movie. NOPE. They got me too, we're in this together, learn from my mistakes!Although it does have it's funny moments The Best Man Holiday brought the tears. Like. A lot of tears. It was straight up heart breaking. Don't get me wrong, it's worth watching! Just don't be surprised when your face starts trying to drown itself from the sadness. Because it's going to happen. And if it doesn't, we can't be friends. So I haven't told you much about the movie except it's good and sad. Well, I'm not going to tell you much more except that I usually hate sad movies. The fact that I'm telling you to see it even though it made me cry should say enough. So go see it.

I loved the characters. Story was OK, acting OK. So why the low score? The language was terrible. Is this really the way black men talk to each other and about their wives and girls? I hope not. Do they think that makes them "manlier"? That's enough reason I wouldn't even want one of these guys. People are going to consider this a "black film" and this is the way you want us to think you behave? You want to be "mainstream"? Then you need to speak with and to all of us with respect and decency. I wouldn't put up with that kind of language myself or permit it to be around my children. Why would anyone expect me to pay money for people to speak so disrespectfully around me? How long will it take for me to just avoid "black films" altogether? How many people already do avoid these movies for that reason?
