Heist (2015)

If you want to watch a really great movie this is not a good choice. However for DeNiro fans and those who like action movies it was a good enough movie. I liked a lot of the acting and some very interesting characters with good motivations but the plot line was all over the place like a map drawn with a cocaine line. There was too much drama over load and not enough suspense caused by better plot. Too much violence that seemed to try and make up for holes in the plot. Casino crime is interesting so the premise is good but it just does not play out well. The number of story lines is distracting and it just seems fictional because it's such a basket of randomness.

I've read this was direct to DVD. It deserves it. A really great cast is wasted. There's a moving bus and the people getting thrown out of it are obviously dummies. (Insert director/writer joke here) If a director doesn't have grasp of technical issues, like what's a take and what isn't, things can go south very quickly. There's also totally ridiculous turns of events here, like a whole gang of police being fooled by the clever use of a hoodie and people deciding to kill someone who works for them instead of just telling them to knock it off. The movie also telegraphs it's big twist. I knew right away what was going to happen, although by the time the movie got to it, I had already forgotten about it and sort of said 'Oh, yeah, that's it'. It's just really bad and the only reason I gave it a 3 is out of pity for the cast. I don't know who Scott Mann is but somebody should think long and hard about giving him the keys again.

My review is not about the actual content of the movie. My review is about the production quality, or lack thereof. Approximately 15 to 20 minutes into the movie, during the scene in Robert DeNiro's office there is a lamp that sends a streak of light across the screen. Right above the actors heads. I've never seen such an amateur looking mistake in a Hollywood production. Looks odd to me. Couldn't they angle that lamp shade differently? I mean did anyone watch this movie before releasing it to the public? Pretty amateur looking production from that aspect in my humble opinion. The lighting guy has done Bobby D a major dis-service. Bobby D is too good for this garbage.

This film tells the story of a man who works in a casino. He needs a lot of money to pay for her daughter's surgery. After a request to his boss for money gets declined, he robs the casino but the heist goes wrong.I was expecting this to be a B movie but it's way better than I expected. The story is intense, as the robbers are being chased after by the police and Mr Pope. There is action going on all the time, giving a nonstop thrilling adventure. The great thing about "Heist" is that it's not just mindless action, but action with a clear purpose and an emotional subplot that makes viewers care. However, the twist on the film doesn't make sense as the clues given are too subtle. I had to rewatch key scenes three times before understanding the twist. Anyway, I am positively surprised by this film, and I enjoyed watching it.
