During an all-night, drug-fueled party at an abandoned asylum known for the horrific treatment of its patients, a group of ordinary teens decide to experiment with the occult, mysteriously leading to a violent possession. In an effort to find help, the group rushes to escape, only to find themselves locked inside with no means of communication. Tempers flare, trusts are broken and in attempt to save one of their friends possessed by the demon, the amateurs try to perform an exorcism. Instead of solving the problem, and unbeknownst to them, they unleash an even more powerful and vengeful spirit, one with a distinct motive and which wants them all dead. The teen's only chance of survival is to uncover the asylum's deep mysteries and find a way out before it's too late.

Good concept, poorly executed.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

Not all movies need to be award winning to be entertaining, And that's what Exeter was: entertaining. Fun concept, pretty good acting, lots of gore and some humor. In the end, it was kind of a "wait, what?" moment, but overall, I really did enjoy it. Give it a shot, just don't go into it with too serious a mindset. Horror purists....calm down.

The Three Acts:The initial tableaux: We get a triple bite opening. First a drug user gets killed after shooting up. That was quite short Second, we get horrid archival footage of the Exeter asylum's failed history as a mental institution, where children were killed en masse. It is rumoured to be haunted by the spirits of those slaughtered. Third, in modern times, the Exeter asylum is being renovated by a church. A number of strongly degenerate teens decide to have a drugs/drinks/smokes party at the asylum. Horror clichés dictate a lot of deaths later in the film.Delineation of conflicts: The youths vandalise the place, urinating and vomiting on the walls, dumping trash everywhere, and breaking fixtures. So it's the youths against whatever spirits they rouse by their attempt at levitation. Can this motley crew of useless teens manage to placate that which possesses Rory?Resolution: Do all of the teens die horribly, or just most of them?

why is this movie getting bad reviews? it was hands down one of my favorite horror films, the actors were great, the plot was creative and made sense the whole way through, the graphics and makeup were amazing, i felt anxiously scared and kept on my toes with suspense the whole way through, and it had a cool twist at the end. for a movie with such a small budget, i don't know how this movie wasn't in theaters, I've seen much worse horror films with higher ratings and in theaters than this one, if you have 1 1/2 hours of extra time, i say to give it a try,i was pleased with it. i think people are being way too over critical about it.

There are many rules teenagers do not follow in Horror movies, but can we blame them? Actually we can, but where would all (most) the horror movies go then? Exactly. But there are still differences even within crazy ideas. For me it's when there's decent effects, at least OK performances and a story that's not completely crazy (though sometimes that can be a good thing too). This is quite normal, with lots of blood and gore effects and twists, which you may or may not see coming. The bottom line is, that it can be a fun watch, if you let it. I thought it was entertaining enough to pass the time, you should be able to tell after 10-20 minutes yourself. If it's not yours, stop watching then, rather than suffer through it
