Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

Following an outbreak in a small Colorado town, a group of soldiers and the few unafflicted left try to battle their way through the hordes of zombies running loose in the streets and forces them to battle their way to safety to find the cause of the zombie virus. There's quite a lot to like of this remake of the original. Most of what makes this one so good is due to one rather important change in the plot line which is hundreds of times better as there's tons of action here because of that. Since the characters aren't stuck underground bickering at each other for ninety minutes, but rather stuck above-ground during the outbreak, this allows for a never- ending series of encounters and scenes with them, including the opening attacks in the woods and the lone investigation of the trashed house being rather fun. That leads into the film's best sections out among the town during a zombie outbreak, starting with fantastic scenes in a hospital where they freak out all at once where the zombies go berserk attacking everyone in fun, thrilling mini-attacks where they go through the staff and patients which gets really exciting with the big action featured here. From the waiting room turning and chasing after the unaffected, having the patients sit up and generally go out attacking everyone on the road leading to the series of encounters between the zombies and the others, and with their escape attempts continually thwarted requiring some inventive and creative methods of dispatching them. The other scenes following their escape while they're trying to get out of town, from the first battle at a radio station and at the border patrol all the while playing with the fun new zombies here as there's a fantastic idea generated with the zombies here by having them run around across walls and ceilings to give it a little identity out among the crowd. The finale in the bunker gives this one the kind of big action packed finish that's required in such an exciting story, from their explorations of the hallways to finding the zombies inside and how the virus was unleashed which really gives this one the big fire-fight filled finish which gets this to the thrilling method of finally getting rid of the threat running wild in the compound. As the gore is top-notch and the zombies look great, these here really hold this one up over it's few minor flaws. The biggest factor here is the fast-zombies idea, which is based on way too wrong an idea here with the creatures being too athletic and lively to be much of the traditional outlook of the genre, chasing down and dragging victims away outside or behind objects, showing some sense of rational thought and adaptation which goes hand-in-hand with their crazed, frenzied behavior that never comes in the slightest bit realistic being completely unneeded and irritating. As well, there's some problem with the introduction of the viruses powers so late in the film with little knowledge about it until then, which does hold this back with the idea of getting the info so late after it really means nothing. Sure, the CGI looks awful at times but it overcomes them and is an awesome amount of fun.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence and Extreme Graphic Language.

I was seriously excited about watching this re-imagining of George Romero's 1985 classic of the same name, but wow was I in for a massive shock and not a good one. Even with a veteran horror director like Steve Miner and a decent $18 million budget this film has no right to go by the same name as the 1985 day of the dead. Everything is computer generated so what was one of the 1985 films strongest features (Tom Savini's spectacular horror make-up) is lost and the zombies themselves are somehow able to climb the walls like insects. The acting is extremely substandard and the story gets lost along the way. This is a great discredit to the previous 2 remakes that were well made and overall much better films. The 1985 version is one of my favourite horror films and I feel betrayed by this shockingly bad version. Not just a bad film compared to the previous films in this series but definitely one of the worst horror films ever made.

When I heard that Day of the Dead was being remade, the mere thought sounded absurd. I mean that is one of, if not THE BEST zombie films of all time! But you never know, could be interesting, right? Like the Dawn of the Dead remake? Wrong. This is honestly the most boringly awful "zombie" "film" (I used these two terms VERY loosely here) I have ever seen, and I watch all I can find.Even if you try to pretend this movie has nothing in common with the original, it's still beyond atrocious. Not even remotely half-way through this movie I was craving for it to be over. The actors who portray characters-in-name-only of the ones from the original film, are pretty mediocre. Ving Rhames' presence could have been good considering how great he was in the Dawn of the Dead remake, but even he couldn't save this mess. The movie seemed very anti-climactic throughout with a very boring and forgettable score. Terrible CGI, terrible gore, etc. This "movie" isn't even worth an in-depth review, because it seems they didn't even put in a decent amount of effort.Avoid this movie like a horde of zombies. Watch the original Day of the Dead (1985) instead, as well as Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978).

So I've just finished watching Day of the Dead, and I must say I've rather enjoyed it. I've read some of the reviews and message board posts, and I can understand why people don't think it's the best film out there, not even the best Zombie flick. It's just a zombie film, and not such a bad one.The story is just about the same story like in any other film of the sort. A virus, infected, some people naturally immune, survivors trying to escape the outbreak. It's not an apocalypse film, as the virus is local, it's more like what happens before the apocalypse. The plot is nice enough. I did like the fact that unlike in other films of the sort, in this case the infected do retain some of their humanity and traits. Acting isn't all that great, though I don't think it's the cast's fault, as there's a limit to how well one could play the banal obvious rolls in such a film. I did like Nick Cannon as the comic relief, although it too was rather stereotypical (very Bad Boys). Nothing I can say about the direction and cinematography, and the soundtrack was OK I guess. All in all, it's typical Action Horror zombies. If you din't expect to be overwhelmed by quality, you can really enjoy this film for what it is. If you want a nice Zombie film - go ahead and watch Day of the Dead, but if you're looking to be scared or for a Zombie film that reinvents the wheel - keep looking.
