WARNING: This movie is not for the faint of heart. Smith (Clive Owen), a war veteran and former shooting champion, protects a baby and a prostitute named (Monica Bellucci) from two squadrons of goons working for an arms manufacturer and a US Senator, who's running for President on a hard nosed gun control control platform. The baby boy, named Oliver by Smith, was conceived as part of an illegal cloning operation. Smith and Donna fall in love and form a paternal bond with Oliver. Smith learns that Oliver's birth was originally part of a plan to provide Sen. Rutlidge (Daniel Pilon), a Democratic Presidential candidate running on a strong gun control platform, with a bone marrow donor. Smith just came across at the right place and time in order to prevent Oliver from being killed with the other mothers and children in the clinic. Karl Hertz, the leader of the arms manufacturer's espionage crew, is trying to eliminate the baby so he can theoretically prevent the supposed (and far fetched) repeal of the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution-the right to bear arms. Operating on this premise, I suppose is the license for the ultra-violent gun fights, which are pretty fun, and the sickening fetish humor. I never considered how many gross jokes and script ideas could from the idea of inserting a gun into a strange place. The needless sexualization of the gun violence in this repugnant fashion may be the writer and director's idea of advocating on behalf of gun control advocates but it just doesn't work. The macho displays, stylized violence and sexual humor are just a bad combo by the end. This film wants be like Millar vehicles Wanted or Kick-Ass, which have done a better job of combining humor with ultra-violence. Even the cult action comedy, Crank-which mixes ultra-violence and strong sexual content, doesn't come across as so repugnant. I guess it's the mainly the sadism and the extreme risk posed to even a fictional child that keep me from actually liking this film.

I know what did happen, my question is, what was supposed to happen? Was this movie supposed to be Shoot 'Em Up? If so, my follow up question is, why? As in, why did you make Shoot Them Up? What was the reason? Like was the goal to make something beautiful, and you got distracted along the way? Are all the guns in this movie supposed to symbolically represent penises? Or are they just guns? That said, there sure are a lot of guns in this movie, over five. I fired a .9 millimeter one time, I shot up a ceramic fat chef, broken pieces, not a metaphor for my life. The plot of this movie is that human beings allow for misery and garbage to dominate the world in exchange for perpetuating the illusion of Kings and Majesty.

This film has an incredibly stupid story, it's like something a 12 year old would write when attempting to create an action film. The story is simplistic, the characters make no sense, the action scenes are completely over the top and the lines are as cheesy as a swiss fondue. This is by no means a good film. But if you want to be entertained by nonstop funny action, this is the place to go. If you're looking for a stupid action film, this is one of the best. It doesn't even try to be anything else, and I like that.Get this film, and save it for a night when you just want to be entertained.

'Shoot 'Em Up' is Bad-Ass! An action-packed fare, that works for the genre it adapts. I had fun!'Shoot 'Em Up' Synopsis: A man named Mr. Smith delivers a woman's baby during a shootout, and is then called upon to protect the newborn from the army of gunmen.'Shoot 'Em Up' is purely time-pass entertainment. Explosions, gun-fights, blood, gore, brutality...'Shoot 'Em Up' has it all. And that's precisely the reason why 'Shoot 'Em Up' works. It hits the bull's eye.Michael Davis's Screenplay is no-holds-barred. Davis's Direction, on the other-hand, is stylish. Cinematography is good. Editing is fairly done. Action-Sequences are great.Performance-Wise: Clive Owen is first-rate. Monica Bellucci looks gorgeous, as ever & delivers a convincing performance. Paul Giamatti is enjoyable as the villain. On the whole, 'Shoot 'Em Up' is mad, wild & bombastic!
