Eddie Ogden is his pa's pride and joy as well as the Groundhogs team's only asset as baseball talent. Then Eddie discovers a taste and talent for cuisine. Although his brothers Andy and Alex, and Pa as well as classmates enjoy his dishes, they only mock cooking, so he arranges and 'accidental' registration for him and two friends in Home Economics. Only Eddie -secretly again- and nerdy shrew Bridget Simons enter a national cooking competition for school-kids. Ma finds out and to his surprise proves supportive, as well as the teacher, who once won the competition herself.

Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

I say this is a most exceptional movie showing how hard it is to do something you love to do when your parents don't approve. Most teens will face situations where their parents don't approve of their dreams but they need to support them anyway since it's their life not the parents. Also the movie represents how just because you're a guy it doesn't mean you can't enjoy things normally girls would stereotypically do like cook. Or if you're a girl it does not mean you can't play sports either a.k.a Hannah and her mother. The movie is all about not letting anyone or anything stopping you from doing something you love. Whether it's the ridicule or being shunned. Although most importantly people learn that you will not agree with what your friends do (that's positive not NEGATIVE!) or your family but if they like it you support it if you love them. The actors...for the most part really capture the emotion of embarrassment and shame, but also still keep it in a comedic tone. Music matched the movie, a family feel like tone just like all usual Disney work.

Didn't really watch the movie but while my kids were watching and I was reading the paper I heard them using the song "Soul Food" which is from Leon Russell's 1967 album, Asylum Choir that he did with a guy named Marc Benno. For those who never heard of Leon, check him out - he should be in the Rock and Roll hall of Fame for his contributions during the early years with such folks as the Beach Boys, Joe Cocker and as a solo artist. Weird.....I am a huge Leon fan and the last place I would have expected to find his songs - let alone this one is a Disney movie. Great choice Mr. Director...... well i see I need ten lines of text so here goes.. this is the tenth line!!!!!!

Well, not a great movie. Not even a good one. It could possibly be described as decent. Then again, not my type of movie whatsoever, so I could be quite biased. I'm also not a young teen/child/whatever age group that Disney aims at these days.Disney movies are usually silly movies that you can sit back and enjoy, without straining your brain at all. No brain-strain here, but also no enjoyability. I may have smiled once during the movie, but, other than that, no high points. No laughing, no grinning.. it just really didn't entertain me at all. Weak jokes, even weaker plot, but hey - One good thing can be said about it. It teaches children that sexism is wrong, or at least (I believe) tries to. I'm not sure how many children would get that out of the movie, but it was definitely there.Kids'll probably enjoy it, from what I've heard, and it has a good message in there for 'em, too, so no harm is done by this movie. Being a 'decent' movie, it got a 5/10, somewhere in the middle, but the 'good message' aspect of it boosted it up to 6/10.
