The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

When Emily (Leisha Hailey) has a miscarriage of her baby, she decides to move to the countryside with her husband Nate Weaver (Gale Harold) to live in an isolated ancient house that had belonged to Nate's family. Sooner Emily is haunted and has dreadful visions of fiends and discovers that she is pregnant again. Further she learns that pregnant women have been murdered in that house and Nate is possessed by the evil spirit of his ancestor."Fertile Ground" is an unoriginal and mediocre collection of clichés. I do not recall how many similar films I have seen until today with practically the same story and clichés. My vote is three.Title (Brazil): "After Dark: Semente do Mal" ("After Dark: Seed of the Evil")

I was anticipating this film because I felt that what I saw in the trailer had potential. However...when I watched it, I was a bit let down. The character of Emily Weaver (Leisha) was very one sided, stilted, and over-dramatically acted. I felt that the direction of the film was lost in the amass of trying to be a supernatural thriller when in actuality, it was the fabrications of a mad-woman. The only character that I even cared for was Nate (Gale). I watched this film a second time after seeing the ending and it completely confirmed my feelings toward the character of Nate. To me, it felt like he knew that nothing was really happening and that his wife was losing it. Like I said, the direction was lost in trying to make this film something that it wasn't, I felt that the writers, producers, and director tried to sell a lemon as an orange. But the only real acting, I felt, came from Gale Harold's character. Basically, the film was ruined for me by the direction, the writing, and the character of Emily Weaver. Nonetheless, I gave this film 6/10 stars because I have to give credit to an actor when credit is due.

You've all read the others reviews and I concur so all I wanted to do was warn anyone who is thinking about hiring this....DON'T! It's gotta be one of the most boring "horror" movies I've ever seen. I was assuming after looking at the cover and it's R ( in Australia) rating that there'd be a bit of gore and excitement.I saw all of the After Dark titles on the shelf and assumed they'd be good. With Fertile Ground I was wrong.Neither. So I don't know how it got it's rating of R. There was about as much gore or anything! Snoozefest! Pity because the actors tried or did well. The plot was just far too pedestrian.

the beginning doesn't give much hint but after the couple move to the rural area and the sight of a palm on the window lead to the signs of the ghost/ evil spirit. the movie is divided into parts, so viewer can predict what's going to happened next. overall, it leads me to think that she's right though slightly clingy and paranoid. but the end offers less suspense and the opposite ending. overall, i feel "blegh" after watching it. not much appearance of the evil except when she seemed like imagining things. you won't be satisfied with the plot summary but watching this movie won't make you satisfied either. good watch if you are bored and not into something too cheesy or dramatic.
