Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

The only good thing I can say about Gryphon is the locations, they are quite nice to look at if never as sweeping or as wondrous as they could've been. However, everything else fails utterly. The music has a ponderous and somewhat generic feel to it, while the direction is pathetic, having no drive or passion whatsoever and the photography and locations while not as gut-wrenchingly bad as I anticipated did nothing to enhance the scenery and action. The gryphon is not only cheaply designed but also moves in a choppy fashion, further diminishing any signs of menace. In fact I have seen few monster effects for a TV movie in recent memory that were as underwhelming in every possible way than the gryphon here. The story is ridiculously predictable and far-fetched and just doesn't seem to have any life at all, and the script is stilted and corny to the point of rolling your eyes. The acting is roundly poor, with a lot of the actors coming across as bland, then again they are not given much credible to work with. And if you are looking for any likable characters, Gryphon is not for you, these characters are clichés and very irritating ones at that. So overall, just awful. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Stuck on the public bus from San Jose to Montezuma, Costa Rica, and as an American accustomed to barbaric dragons and sorcerer flicks, this was not only surprising, but wonderful. We boarded the bus at 6:30am, content in the knowledge that after 5 hours, we would be arriving on the tropical Pacific beach at Montezuma, on the western peninsula in Costa Rica. It was unsurprising, however, to find that a movie chosen by the bus driver on the bus was of American heritage, as American Consumerism and Capitalism are running rampant all over this military-free nation. 50 percent of Costa Rica's GDP comes from the export of fruits and sugar...51 percent come from tourism and for those of us lucky enough to be white AND choosing the public transit system to the coast, SCI-FI channel's "Attack of the Gryphon" gave us a taste of home (though we had to read the English sub-titles as they had graciously chosen the Spanish over-dubbing for the 4 Tico's on board.)I could summarize and critique this fine film for you, but will not. Basically, it sucked. Besides the 10 minute break where we were allowed off of the bus to eat gallo pinto for breakfast and watch the bus driver re-start "Attack of the Gryphon" for the second time after the climatic battle between good woman and man warriors and evil sorcerer, the film was mostly ignored. As I'm sure it was ignored on whichever Friday night it was played on SCI-FI Channel.Don't bother ever paying money for this movie. If it happens to be on, and you happen to be stuck on a tour bus... f*** it. Its not totally completely horrible.

I am surprised that I haven't heard about any lawsuit yet against the filmmakers, I mean they even stole the Path of the Death from Lord of the Rings! I am sure this one ends up in my top 250 of worst movies, maybe even at number one. O gosh, I hardly have words to explain how bad this is.Bad acting, bad script : I have seen bad movies, for sure, but this one is so bad that beside my laughs about stupidities and terrible visual effects I felt eternal regret for even buying the movie on DVD.... result, I dumped it in the garbage can, glad to have never ever watch this again.I really won't recommend it to anyone at all. I would feel guilty forever, afraid of loosing my best movie pals.

Extremely bad "Lord of the Rings" wannabe. (The Delphi king even seemed to be trying to look like the king in LOTR.) Bad acting, bad battle staging (notice how the "dead" soldiers disappear), bad COSTUMES, and incredibly bad CGI. Poor Larry Drake - when I say him in that getup at the end, all I could think of was John Candy in those old SCTV skits!! Plus, what was with his two Xena reject warrior women? Why did the queen need to sacrifice herself to get rid of them? Obviously meant to be a big meaningful "sacrifice" scene, it had no emotional impact. To top it all off, Benson & LaPaglia were totally unbelievable and miscast. Don't get me wrong - I love cheesy movies, but this was just BAD!!
