Anja and five friends join anthroplogy student, Dace, on a journey to study a remote, ancient rock painting. Their excitement vanishes when Mel becomes delirious after skinny-dipping in the waterhole. Feverish, bleeding, confused, she physically and mentally regresses to a vicious predatory state. Mel has gone primal. Mel’s lover and friends realise they are the prey as she savagely hunts them down. Before they can escape another one of them starts to regress, posing a hideous choice; kill their friends or be killed by them. Their only hope of survival is through a cave, where Anja learns too late the meaning of the ancient rock art they came to study.

It's funny, it's tense, it features two great performances from two actors and the director expertly creates a web of odd tension where you actually don't know what is happening for the majority of the run time.

Well. This is one of those movies you have to watch in a group and with a beer in your hand and you will have a good time. From time to time I really thought that it was thrilling, you can laugh your ass off about the Ninja turtle moves, weird creatures and dialogues. The ending was just WTF and felt a little bit cheesy, but I think it fits to the rest so why not.+A lot of disgusting stuff +Reeeal dumb dialog +Being a zombie gives you superhero powers-Dont watch if you like rabbits -Typical "nobody can use a cellphone properly" movie -Something was shown in the beginning that hey never explained

The best underrated movie I've seen in quite some time! The rich back story matched with the intricate character development made the movie absolutely irresistible! Comedic relief Warren, wild woman Mel, lovable Chris, everyone's ultimate mancrush Dace, and, of course, main protagonist Anja, left me on the edge of my seat and wanting more with their excellent performances and splendid line delivering! The only down side to the film was the character Chad, who made me physically ill. Pure ignorance, raving lunacy, and the reasoning of a handicapped manchild were some of Chad's biggest hits throughout the feature. His overall demeanor and acting ability clearly brought down the entire cast, but not enough for me to give Primal less than 10 stars out of 10!

I just saw this movie on syfy... even with the parts edited for content this is still arguably the worst movie ever. It goes from archaeological expedition flick to zombie movie to Japanese tentacle rape... seriously pick a genre and go with it will you? Is this how Aussies deal with threats now that their government has taken away their guns? big f*cking rocks and torches? I guess the socialists won huh? You've reduced yourselves to cavemen with cars and cable TV... good job. This movie would have been over in about 30 seconds if it took place in America. Oh look shes crazy and she bit me *bang* problem solved. But instead I had to put up with 2 hours of screaming over the simplest things and inaction when action is the only logical response to the stimuli... Girl running with machete and gets caught by 2 "zombies" don't get off your ass and help just sit there and tell her to run... uh yeah that's gonna solve the problem. I guess the commie government took your testicles too.

After a bloody attack on a 12,000-year-old wall painter, a budding group of young anthropologists arrive at the same site, in the present day. The six college-student types find some wall paintings, then have a few foreshadowing mishaps. Things heat up when sexy blonde Krew Boylan (as Mel) goes skinny-dipping in a pool of leeches. Well-built lover Lindsay Farris (as Chad) stands by while more stud-like Wil Traval (as Dace) tears the leeches from Ms. Boylan's quivering body...She's infected with something and starts spitting teeth and growling like a hungry animal...Of the six, watch for Zoe Tuckwell-Smith (as Anja) to overcome her claustrophobia and take charge. Two more minor monster bait are funny Damien Freeleagus (as Warren) and girly Rebekah Foord (as Kris). Interesting to note how the sex acts occur before anyone undresses; this could be "safe sex" for the monster set. "Primal" was written, directed and edited by Josh Reed. He knows how to edit his own work to best effect, and doesn't fall into self-indulgent traps; the result moves okay for this sort of gore.***** Primal (8/26/10) Josh Reed ~ Zoe Tuckwell-Smith, Krew Boylan, Wil Traval, Lindsay Farris
