Episode 15 - Austria & Italy

A journey through the snowy mountains of Tyrol from Austria to Italy. This railway line was built along the border of the Empire of Austria. Formerly especially important for the army, now many tourists use it. Thanks to the beautiful Puster Valley, there is much to enjoy on all sides.

A beautiful train journey along the Var River, which starts at the Mediterranean Sea. From mundane Nice the trail winds along the river Var and Verdon through an inhospitable area. On this journey through the Provençe, small stations in quiet towns and impressive viaducts alternate.

A train journey along the Scottish east coast (from Aberdeen) means passing a long line of artworks. A landscape that is less spectacular for Scotland still yields enough attention. Highlights are two of the most famous rail viaducts in the world, each with their own story.

From Cologne a journey along the Rhine, a river that has left a big mark on this part of Europe for centuries. The train ride gives a good impression of this, even in gray autumn months. The ultimate goal is Europe's financial center, Frankfurt, the Manhattan on the Main.

In the French-speaking part of Switzerland, the old town of Neuchatel is an important railway junction. It is not only on the line to Geneva, but many trips in the region also start here. Some of these - such as to Buttes and Glovelier - can be experienced in this program.

A journey on the oldest English railway line from the east to the west coast, from Newcastle to Carlisle, parallel to the Hadrinanus Wall. It was built to protect the Roman Empire against invasion. Then further south and Lancaster and then on the beautiful wadden coast of Cumbria and the Lake District.

The city of Poznan is our starting point for an impressive steam train journey. We visit Wolsztyn, among others, where one can find the last steam train depot in Europe. Leszno is another interesting destination. The narrow-gauge Znin-Gasawa is absolutely breathtaking.
