Follow the adventures and misadventures of Penny, a 14-year-old African American girl who's doing her best to navigate through the early years of teen-dom. Penny's every encounter inevitably spirals into bigger than life situations filled with hi-jinks, hilarity and heart. Her quest to balance her home, school and social lives are further complicated by friends like the sassy Dijonay, Penny's nemesis LaCienega Boulevardez, her loving, if not over-protective parents and her hip-to-the-groove-granny, Suga Mama.

Smokey Robinson is hired to sing at the wedding of Suga Mama after she accepts a marriage proposal from her senior-citizen beau, Clarence St. John. Meanwhile, Oscar hopes a private eye will prove his hunch that the bride-to-be is being fleeced out of her life savings by the future groom.

Penny volunteers as a junior counselor, to the chagrin of Oscar, who's fearful of his daughter being alone with boys and their "raging hormones." Meanwhile, Peabo splits his time away from home between tracking Penny's every move and trying to get closer to crush Zoey.

Episode 16 - The Legend of Johnny Lovely

A mythical character named Johnny Lovely blows into town to show Penny and her friends the importance of treating each other with respect. His arrival coincides with rehearsals for the Junior Debutante Ball, a custom that Penny complains is outdated and demeaning to women. However, Johnny sees this coming-out party as a chance to put on display his gentlemanly good manners.

Los Angeles DJs Big Boy and Fuzzy Fantabulous have cameos as Dijonay attempts to win Sticky's love by making him jealous of the attention she's giving to a boy from Hawaii. Elsewhere, Oscar enters into a bet with the world's fastest baby.

But that's not much consolation for babies BeBe and CeCe, who miss their mommy and daddy.
