Set in an alternate universe, in a college called FAERYVILLE, a group of teenage misfits struggle to find themselves and make sense of their ‘purpose’. They decide that there is no reason in trying to fit-in, trying like ‘everybody’ to be ‘somebody’, choosing instead to mock the establishment, as pranksters – calling themselves The Nobodies. Now, what’s their plan? Frankly, they have no idea, until Laer, a transfer student, joins them and takes them on a warpath of self-discovery and no return. Faeryville is a dystopian teen movie, a stylish coming of age film about youth making sense of their idealistic dreams in our increasingly surreal world - a fictional manifestation of very real issues prevalent in the Post 9-11 world.

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

I see FAERYVILLE variously described as a horror or fantasy movie but in fact this is a stock indie drama with some very mild surreal elements. It's a collaboration between the USA and Singapore that looks at gang violence but for the most part contains a lot of posing on the part of the young male characters. It does look good in high definition, but there's very little content other than a few action and sex scenes. There's not a lot going on really.

The filmmakers didn't resort to cheesy tactics or run of the mill horror movie thrills. They thought out of the box and really made this film transcend itself and the story line. I was thoroughly impressed with the casting and locations used throughout the movie. While it's definitely not a "large budget" film, there's something refreshing about movies being made for the love of the art and not to please generic box office rating snobs. The youthful feel of the movie inspires an idealism and passion that can be easily lost in today's and society and cinema. Faeryville makes no excuses and doesn't bother, or want to back down from what it truly "feels". Kudos to the filmmaker for taking a risk with this film and to the actors and crew for not only standing behind it, but creating something greater than the individual parts. While the writer and director could have spent more time aligning their visions and goals for the film, there is a raw edginess created out of this seemly "mishmash" of styles and ideas. If you are looking for something to watch that entertains, provokes thought, and embodies ideals easily lost today, then this just might be the film that'll make your and someone specials evening.
