In 2003, Jose Prendes made Corpses are forever, a terribly underrated action-horror flick with a top-notch cast and fun, witty script.Malcolm Grant (Jose Prendes) is requited by the mysterious General Morton (played by the wonderfully over the top Richard Lynch) to be injected with a formula that will allow him to go through the memories of a serial killer, in order to discover why the earth has been over run by the walking dead !People need to stop being so mean. This a great flick with a top notch cast, and bad-ass storyline.Besides Lynch, the film also stars Debbie Rochon (Hanger), Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living dead), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway camp) and the always entertaining Conrad Brooks (Plan 9 from Outer space). Also from Return of the Living dead is Don Calfa, who makes a cameo appearance here as Grants former boss, under the pseudonym Lanc Flododa.Prendes has so much talent, watching this just makes me want to read all his novels and pic up his othe directorial effort, The Monster Man, which also stars Brooks and Quigley, as well as FX legend Tom Savini. Heres to you Jose, for proving that even the little guy can make one hell of a fun flick.

If this movie could have focused, it could have been an entertaining little romp, filmed in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, with an excellent cast of grade-Z actors, including the homeless-man's Rutger Hauer, Richard Lynch, and the aging but still cute Linnea Quigley, among others. The biggest problem I saw in this movie was the lack of focus. Was it a James Bond parody, as you might expect from the title? No. THAT would have been cool -- what would a James Bond-style secret agent do in a world full of zombies? No, this is more Memento meets Night of the Living Dead meets American Werewolf in London ... with Linnea Quigley as some sort of undead Deus ex Machina. If you take into consideration the lack of budget (to the point that there are virtually no threatening zombies on screen and no threat of impending doom, until someone mentions it in dialogue), it's fun. If you try to judge it without those considerations, it's really really bad. So be kind! I'd rent the sequel, The Corpse Who Loved Me ... wouldn't you?

Corpses Really Act Poorly (C.R.A.P.) - Okay, so before I rip into this movie I want to explain why I gave it two stars. One star goes to Jose Prendes for having a good idea, and one star because it's a zombie movie. That's where my good will ends. The main thing that ruins this movie is our intrepid auteur Jose. His acting is only marginally worse than his martial arts skills. Watching the fight sequences felt like watching WWF. If a kick or punch landed within five feet of its intended target, it was a miracle. Our lead actor/director spends a good portion of the movie wearing a big felt hat that's about ten sizes to big for his head, trying to channel Indiana Jones or Humphrey Bogart in a sad attempt at Cinema Noir. Nice try, Jose, but you ended up being your own worst enemy. Get some actors next time, because your idea could have been interesting.

This movie had potential to be so much more, but I believe its ultimate downfall was weaving too many story lines and plot twists into one movie. I loved the idea of the CIA operative Malcolm Grant/Quint taking the experimental truth serum, but the idea is constantly given a backseat to the zombie storyline, which succumbs to the government conspiracy storyline, which later takes a backseat to the devil storyline. Oh yeah, every time the CIA guy takes the serum, he suffers from amnesia. Once the Devil has been defeated the story then reverts back to a generic "destroy all zombies" storyline. I would like to see Prendes do this movie again without the zombies/government conspiracy/devil plot lines and make a psychological thriller about a CIA operative taking part in the experimental truth serum program to catch the bad guy.
