It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.
"...And it is only the beginning" has a few things going for it. First, an interesting set of actors who can carry a movie. Second, a very good 60/40 English/German pop music soundtrack. And third, real adult sensuality kept within the bounds of the film's R-rating. However, there are a million and one increasingly irritating plot devices used to keep the two lead characters, Anna and Micheal, apart during the first 90 minutes of the movie. Worse, the plot twists box in the characters and make them appear to be more shallow and inept than these good characters would otherwise be.Fire the writer, and redo this movie! Actually, this same just-missing-to-connect plot device has already been done well in the recent Japanese TV drama, WITH LOVE. "...And it is only the beginning" is interesting enough to watch, but so poorly written it is difficult to thoroughly enjoy.
