Me and Will (1999)

This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Although this type of movie would generally not interest me, I bought the DVD because Billy Wirth was in it. What a shame too, that his appearance was so brief. This actor should receive the recognition he deserves. His unique acting ability is only one of his many talents and his outstanding good looks are incomparable to other, more recognized actors. After viewing "Me and Will", I was glad that I took a chance on it and recommend it for others.

It's amazing the way Hollywood squanders talent. Sherrie Rose and Melissa Behr have spent most of their careers doing exploitation and cheap TV shows. On their own they put out a movie like this. This is a very touching movie, a road picture with obvious debts to "Easy Rider" but also a lot to say about individual freedom and the choices made in life. This kind of movie was very prevalent in the 70's but is a lost art these days. And who paid attention to it? If not for an article in Femmes Fatales Magazine, I never would have heard of it. It's sad the treasure that goes unnoticed out there.

Maybe this is the celluloid version of the "vanity press." Whatever you call it, DON'T call it the "female version of 'Easy Rider' and DON'T call it "one of the most perfect independent films out there." Two words...it sucked!Have you ever been watching what looked like would be a good movie, and suddenly found yourself rooting AGAINST the two lead characters - virtual cardboard cutouts completely devoid of any charm, energy and acting talent? Well, watch this piece of crap and you will have that experience, just like I did! Plot? Nah...just something an 8-year old might slap together on a handheld during an afternoon stuck indoors on a rainy day.Where was that Cary Loftin guy from Spielberg's old TV movie "Duel?" He could have ended this movie in the first 15 minutes, with a high-speed chicks-on-choppers flattening scene, with the gas tanker truck then jackknifing and rolling, ending it all in a blazing inferno...roll credits and the audience would have stood up and cheered! Sounds like Oscar material for a short film...Too bad that didn't happen. Watch this "movie" at your own risk!Rating? Huh? Zip.

This has to be one of the best independent films I have ever seen. Sherry Rose and Melissa Bher are truly two very talented writers. The simple combination of two women escaping from a mental institution, their developing friendship, and what emotion means to even a couple of druggie biker-chicks makes for a perfect drama. Jane's emotional chains to her father reflect how even childhood problems can haunt you forever, as does Will's relationship with her obsessive compulsive mother. Also, the cracking of an emotional shell of two hardend bikers may appeal to some drama hounds. The acting was four stars, even from a very tatooed Patrick Dempsey, as the boyfriend of Jane. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for something to satisfy an uncontrollable urge to see a fantastic film.
