"Sabretooth": another one of the endless parade of low-budget science-fiction flicks that keep coming up all over the Sci-Fi Channel with no indication of coming to a halt or slowing down any time soon. Most of these flicks, keep in mind, I find distasteful, stupid, boring, and uninteresting. However, 2002's "Sabretooth" proved to be the opposite. Yes, it was a bad movie. The CGI was horrible, the characters were predictable, the ending needed some serious work, but it actually proved itself to be a better creative effort than its fellow flicks and even was entertaining at times.Special effects wise, "Sabretooth" is an average, if not lower-than-average achievement. The computer graphics used on the big-toothed cat are nothing short of terrible. The CGI cat is a light, blurry gray and not convincing in any shots. However, thankfully, most of the time, the cat is shown through animatronics and props, which are actually fairly convincing in a few shots. I was impressed at the complexity of the mechanical jaws used in close-ups. But I still wish that the cat had normal vision, instead of some twisted color-altered vision that all sci-fi creatures seem to possess in these movies. What I also found impressive in "Sabretooth" was that it wasn't recklessly bloody and distasteful. The cat does not just attack people, rip off arms, heads, and leave chunks of body lying around and huge pools of blood. The gore is kept at a controlled level and is thus, more realistic. The screenplay was also fairly good and there were some effective moments of comical relief and even some character development. The characters were more developed and believable and thus, were not boring. David Keith was especially good as the hunter Bob Thatcher, hired to catch the cat.Bottom line, "Sabretooth" was actually an entertaining low-budget sci-fi feature. And if any sci-fi flick can achieve that, then I praise it for what it is. Yes, if this was a Hollywood film, then it would be a disgrace, but being under the category that it is, it is a very excellent achievement and worth looking at a few times.

i thought this was decent. It has a good plot, good acting, it had two beautiful women. (Vannesa Angel and Jenna Gering) i think David Keith was a great actor,. it has some good action and suspense and lots of gore. But the effects get a F- because I think attack of the sabretooth had better effects but personally I think that Sabretooth is better then Attack of the sabretooth because it has more suspense. My Rating: Acting: B+ Gore: A+ Suspense: D+ Action: A+ Plot: B- Drama: F- Fakeness:C- Animation D- Overall: A- I would recommend this to a person who likes a good hero film that has bad special effects but is a great film. So I recommend!

A Sci-Fi Channel Original directed by James D.R. Hickox. CGI that fails as much as it works. Hackneyed story that is watchable to the end. Cloning with remarkably fertile DNA, scientists create a vicious sabretooth tiger that escapes in transit. John Rhys-Davies fantasizes about being president and Vanessa Angel aspiring a Nobel Prize hire hunter deluxe David Keith to find the deadly animal before it rips more people apart. Jenna Gering and Josh Holloway are conducting an outdoors clinic that is interrupted by the ravenous predator. The tiger is to weight between 300 and 500 pounds, but the CGI placement has the creature various sizes. And by the way, what color is this sabretooth? Also in the cast: Nicole Tubiola, Lahmard J. Tate and Phillip Glasser. Keith is his usual cool and steady. Holloway appears to always be modeling.(Take him or leave him). But I found Tubiola to be the most exciting thing about this movie. Rhys-Davies and Tate are just plain obnoxious. And Angel most deservedly needed a rap across the chops.

What is it with SciFi, when they produce films as bad as this? Why not concentrate on creating a decent movie for a change, instead of putting out a string of badly-written, badly-acted, illogical, even stupid, CGI crapfests like this one? The director and writer of this BOMB seemingly have nothing but contempt for the intelligence of the audience; the actions of the characters and their dialogue might be clever and entrancing to 6-year-olds, but for everyone else, AVOID THIS SCREAMING TURKEY, which is almost as bad as that other CGI nightmare "Blue Demon"...a film even Ed Wood would have been ashamed to be affiliated with. There is no need to go into detail regarding this particular farce; just remember every stupid, low-budget, idiotic, horrible film you've ever seen, and you have a good idea of how bad this thing is; the writer and director and most of the actors should be forced to eat their own intestines while viewing it, particularly the Rambo-type who gets his at the entrance to the mine. The only reason I could not give a lower rating to this BOMB is because no negative numbers were available.AVOID THIS FILM UNLESS YOU ARE A HARDENED MASOCHIST!
