The film was the worst. The performances were dry and not at all convincing. None of the actors even look like the people they were hired to portray. The story line felt as though it was written by someone with very little knowledge about Aaliyah. Nothing in the film felt genuine. Though her career was short lived, she was an icon and deserved better than this. This film was incredibly disrespectful to her legacy. Im highly disappointed in Lifetime.

Don't even have her best songs know one looks like who they should Zendaya at least has some respect for Aaliyah Later that day, Zendaya made her own announcement via social media in a series of three Instagram videos:"Let me just explain something. The reason why I chose not to do the Aaliyah movie had nothing to do with the haters or people telling me that I couldn't do it, I wasn't talented enough, or I wasn't black enough. It had absolutely nothing to do with that."The main reason is that the production value wasn't there, there were complications with the music rights, and I just felt like it wasn't being handled delicately considering the situation. And I tried my best to reach out to the family on my own, and I wrote a letter, but I was unable to do so; therefore, I felt not really morally OK with moving forward with the project."With all that being said, congratulations to the new woman playing Aaliyah; I only hope she does not have to deal with half the hate that I had to deal with. And remember that we are all human beings trying to do what we love to do. Let's practice motivation and love; not discrimination and hate. All right?"Zendaya finished her announcement with a smooch to the camera –"Mwah!"Zendaya: 'I Respect (Aaliyah)So Much As An Artist' We can only hope that she's right, that Alexandra will not receive as much hate as Zendaya did — not only were die-hard Aaliyah fans upset by the casting, but so, too, were her family. They were very outspoken in declaring that only A-list actors and A-list talent could carry the movie; however, Alexandra is not exactly A-list talent herself.Furthermore, let's be honest: Lifetime is not where A-list movies live.HollywoodLife.com spoke to Zendaya on the BET Awards red carpet on June 29, where she echoed the statements made in her series of Instagrams:"Basically, I just felt that because I love her, and because I respect her so much as an artist, I don't want to do anything that's half or anything that's less for her. I felt like some things with the production weren't all the way there, the project wasn't all the way there. If I'm going to do something for someone I care about so much, I have to do it the right way." http://hollywoodlife.com/2014/07/18/You said it Z poor value indeed

I am a middle-aged woman who knows nothing about Aaliyah. I also don't watch Lifetime that often but, this afternoon, their programming seemed to suck the least. This movie came on in the middle of the afternoon after something else I was watching went off; I kept it on for background noise. Began to pay enough attention to start realizing this was going to be a true waste of 2 hours. The dialog is sappy. The acting is ridiculous (although, I think they probably did the best they could considering the material they were given). the "performance" scenes were badly produced and choreographed. I Googled to find out why a movie about a girl that young was being made. What happened to her was horrible, and this was a horrible way to tell her short life story. If this is typical of what Lifetime produces, they need to give up trying to do this on their own.

Yes this movie was terrible butWhy not have a documentary movie instead?, which screens all of Aaliya's music videos, behind the scenes work, video through her career and life in one big movie edited with all her music, include her ups and downs. I would watch something like this on IMAX.Movies on legends are difficult to do and to do them you need a big budget to get the emotions correct, casting even more correct and so on. You cannot find someone that looks exactly like Missy Elliot and acts her out exceptionally well. Just have missy and timbaland themselves give their experience working with Aaliyah.
