Josie Alibrandi has a lot to deal with right now. She’s 17, got the dreaded H.S.C. in front of her, and the boy of her dreams seems completely out of reach. Then there’s that other problem. She’s a wog. Sure, it’s where Josie comes from, but it’s not where she feels she belongs. In fact, Josie doesn’t know where she belongs. With her Nonna in one ear talking about the old country and the stuck-up girls at her school telling her she’s an outsider, it’s no wonder. This year, however, everything is going to change. Josie will let loose, face her fears, uncover secrets - even discover the true identity of her father. It’s going to be a year when Josie finally finds out where she belongs.

I don't have all the words right now but this film is a work of art.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

I love the movie , although had forgotten how different the book is to the movie until i re read it the other day . But I think that there needed to be changes in the movie , just because of the time difference on when the book was written and set, and when the film was produced. And Melina Marchetta, the author of the book also wrote the screenplay so the characters are true reflections of how she wants them to appear. Also i love the soundtrack, especially the cover of U2's With or Without you at John Bartons Funeral , and Teenager of the Year. Its so funny coz during my final Yr 12 exams in my very last exam I remembered that song as I was finishing... it must have helped i got a good mark !! lol

looking for Alibrandi was excellent. This movie is funny and sad , with great performances by Anthony Lapaglia and Pia Miranda. i cried so much in certain parts and laughed so much in certain parts. Pia Miranda was so great in this movie. she acts so consistently well through out the movie and i hope she becomes a big and well known star. Over all this movie was outstanding. all the Australian movies i have seen are really not that good but this movie shows that there are good Australian produces and directors. This movie is great. Its a must see. this movie would probably be my favourite movie when it came out and its still in my top 15. i watch it like 3 times a month its a great film and i really like so watch it cause its great.

There are not many great Australian films, but this one - Looking For Alibrandi - was quite good. It probably had an advantage to it's goodness as the author herself Melina Marchetta actually wrote the screenplay.Though the movie is not exactly the same as the novel, the movie is filled with many great moments that are quite funny, and scenes that are dramatic. It is a must-see for anyone that has read her novel, and others who haven't.I gave this movie eight out of ten stars, because there are some scenes in the movie (not most of it, just a few) when you wonder why Melina wrote this scene into the screenplay, and it gets confusing. All in all, it is not your average Australian movie - that are always plain and boring - it is excellent, and I think that they got great actors and actresses to bring the characters to life such as the main character who plays Josie, Pia Miranda.

"Looking for Alibrandi" is, in my humble opinion, one of the best coming-of-age-movies that I have ever seen. Brilliant. I don't even recall it being released here in the States. It came on the cable channel, WE, Women's Entertainment, one late night and I happened to be channel surfing. I actually stayed up and watched the entire thing to the end, it was that compelling. Don't even know if it's available here in the States on DVD or VHS. It truly is a worthwhile film. I will never hear U2's "with or without you" the same way ever again. And who knew Anthony LaPaglia was so talented! It was as if I was looking at him for the first time. Had absolutely no idea that he was Australian. My goodness, what a hunk he is!
