Really strange documentary of Wheeler Dixon production quality on the Tunguska Event and the possibility of it happening again causing an apocalypse (basically a meteor scare film) sprinkled with UFO conspiracy kooks, and other 'professionals', riddled with stock footage of all kinds, freaky moog music and sound fx, a Dr. Who rip-off end theme, Victor Buono as Homer the Archivist, a philosophical history recorder in a space ship with a HAL 9000 type talking computer named Ino, there's also another space ship with Egyptian looking aliens girls with pasties and see-thru blouses.

In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

In 1979 I had two film makers Joost and Iris van Rees come to my office when I was working in California. They were making a documentary about the Tunguska Event, asked for an interview. I did it. I did not even know they made the documentary, years later I saw it on television, it is awful, Victor Buono plays Homer the Archivist, he obviously figured out fast that this awful and so he just acts nuts. Here is the weird thing, Googling Target Earth, there are hits where the 1954 film is credited to Joost van Rees who made the 1980 film. And there are places where the poster art for the 1954 film , used on the VHS box turns up as the VHS box for the Target …. Earth? In fact check out IMDb's 'art' for Target…..Earth? It's the one for the 1954 film! Somehow in some crazy way the 1954 and 1980 film have gotten mixed up together.
