Excellent but underrated film

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.

As far as these sort of trashy and sleazy. soft-core productions go, this was absolutely a great and a real fun one to watch.Of course the movie is being totally simplistic with its story and the movie is basically some total nonsense from start till finish but they at least managed to make it a very fun watch. Seriously, the movie is deliberately being more of a comedy, which was a true great approach for the movie to take with its silly concept. It's a soft-core flick, so that means it's mostly being filled with female nudity but the sex itself is never anything explicit or something that goes too far, unless you find the premise of the movie already an offensive one to begin with. And believe me, I can see how this can offend some people. Basically the message this movie is sending out is that all cheerleaders should be seen as sex-objects and they will do ANYTHING for the team, including sleeping with the opposing team to wear them out, the day before the game. Really, sex seems to be the only thing that's on the mind of these young girls. And when they don't have a cute guy around, they use the coach, or someones father, or each other, to get their pleasures.But key to liking this movie is to take nothing in this movie too seriously. And how could you really? It's often so silly and over-the-top, that you just can't ever take this movie seriously in any way.It's a movie that is filled with lots of sexual innuendos and sexual orientated jokes. And I must say, the movie make me laugh quite a lot. I won't exactly say that the movie was ever being very clever with its jokes but it often was something so silly and random that it actually really works out great, comedy-wise. The timing is really spot on at times and it's actually a pretty well made and directed movie, all things considering.Another reason why this movie just works out great and fun is because all of the girls are really fun to watch as well. I'm not just talking about it that they are pleasant and fun to look at but they also obviously had fun doing this movie, which shows on the screen and helps to make this an overall very fun experience. None of the acting is great but yet at the same time I can call it a really well cast movie because all of the girls suit their roles so very well. The movie besides did a great job at casting as many different looking girls as possible. Basically a raunchy, bawdy soft-core high school comedy featuring liberated(..to say the least)sex crazy nympho cheerleaders who proceed to bang anyone with a pecker in sight.The big game is coming between Amorosa(..our cheerleaders' team)and Central and we spend some time with these girls as they commence in their randy activities of seducing or simply ravaging a host of males. Lots of panties come off and sex is frequent with the usual expected high school jokes, such as the filthy janitor(..with a peep hole in his equipment room to spy on the girls as they get undressed), the virginal innocent who yearns for the right sexual experience, locker room stripping, giant orgy between the football team and cheerleader squad(..which results in their being too drained physically to participate successfully in the big game), the final game itself and the hi-jinx that ensues in regards to how Amarosa must combat their foes(..there isn't much of a competition since the cheerleaders actually ball Central as well in order for both teams to be on equal footing!).There's sex between a cheerleader and the group's "supplier"(..he has the ability to supply them drugs and favors in regards to skipping certain classes)in a vehicle as it goes through a car wash. One of the cheerleaders actually humps the school bus driver as he steers down the block. Jeannie(Stephanie Fondue), the virgin newcomer to the squad, is almost gang raped by the football team who found her naked in their shower(..it was an initiation trick by her girls). Jeannie's father is seduced by Claudia(Denise Dillaway)while watching a football game as the cheerleaders were having a slumber party. Bonnie(Jovita Bush)eyeballs Jeannie's brother, discovers him masturbating to a nude mag, and immediately propositions him! Debbie(Brandy Woods)offers herself to the Amarosa's football coach(..he himself in little more than a jock strap)and he accepts, providing some rear end plumbing. Debbie and a cooker go at it in the back of his hamburger stand. And, the sexual encounters go on and on.I watched the other Cheerleaders movies before this(..Swinging & Revenge)and expected this would be tame in comparison..boy was I in for a surprise. This movie is essentially a series of executed fantasies. Down through time most or many of us have pondered the idea of making sweet love to a cheerleader. While I found myself particularly uncomfortable watching a girl sitting up in the lap of a much older, grinning-from-ear-to-ear bus driver(..missing some teeth), as he attempts to keep from hitting cars parked in the neighborhood, or the scene where a middle-aged father gets the ride of his life, seemingly in heavenly bliss, these are obvious dreams come true, printed to celluloid. We even get a lesbian encounter between Patty(Kimberly Hyde)and her cheerleader coach. The Cheerleaders is another exploitation feature which perfectly embodies the uninhibited spirit thriving during this decade after the summer of love overflowed it's sexually free ways, spilling into the 70's. The girls seem absolutely fine in shedding their clothes at any given moment.. Especially tasteless fare, directed and acted embracing the joyous nature of love-less sex. Yeah, I enjoyed it. The camera spends a great amount of time observing the cheerleader squad's derrière, and we often get long pans up and down their bodies. The uniforms are ridiculously short(..thanks guys!)so that even when they aren't naked, they might as well be.

this movie get a '3' out of 10, or roughly 1/3, because there are 6 cheerleaders in this movie but only 2 are worth looking at, and that's 1/3. the two better chicks are the cheerleaders captain (denise dillaway), an attractive brunette with healthy natural breasts; and the dark girl (jovita bush), who has a rockin' body highlighted by magnificent nipples. but better still isn't great. none of these chicks would even qualify for the H.O.T.S. squad.two scenes stand out - the young virgin cheerleader (stephanie fondue, a plain Jane with a nice ass) has to go through initiation by showering in the boys' room and is caught. she has her towel ripped away from her naked, and is fondled at length. later, the cheerleader captain gets it from behind from the coach while his old game highlights play on tape in the background as if play by play of his conquest.but since the story is stupid, the sex situations clichéd, and the acting abysmal, the women at least need to be sexy and good looking and they're mostly not. if the cheerleader captain and the dark girl are a 6 on the 1-10 scale, to be generous there's a 5, two 4's and a 3 leftover. not a good ratio, even for exploitation fare.

Aside from horror , 70's sexploitation is my second favorite genre and The Cheerleaders is a real winner in the "so bad it's good " category. This movie has it all , girls that seriously look real young instead of movies where the "highschool" girls are reaching mid 30's these girls look actually 18...hell Stephanie Fondue looks actually 16..it's scary. So we've got raunchy comedic sex , the sex in this movie is more on the bizzare comedic side rather than the hardcore explicit side..this is most notorious in the football orgy , and the memorable sex scene between the cheerleader coach and the blonde on the gym bike while bad classical music plays in the background. The film itself gets boring in some parts that just draaaaaaag...but it has enough sex to keep you interested. This is not for people seeking quality filmaking , or even for hardcore porn fanatics...it's just the perfect popcorn film for late night viewing..Oh I also taped this off The Movie Channel late at night after learning it and Showtime air the complete uncut 84 minute version instead of the reportedly heavily edited video version..so if you want a copy of this until this comes on DVD unedited I suggest making yourself a copy...
