A Group of teenagers test the legend of an immortal witch and get more than they bargained for. It's almost Halloween and six young people, spooked but not undaunted by the folklore surrounding an old haunted house, make their way to the abode of the legendary Wicked, perhaps hoping to provoke the malevolent witch, but clearly not prepared for what they've certainly unleashed.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

The Good: 1. A witch with a meat grinder is always cool in my book. 2. The urban legend that breaking a window by throwing a rock at the witch's house will bring the wrath of the Wicked upon you was a good premise. 3. The lesbian who claims she isn't was a pretty unique and funny character. The Bad: 1. This movie tries to have too many heroes (the brothers, the lesbian and the hot chick) 2. the witch's house is not old or scary, 3. the "magic" subplot and magician grandfather were not necessary, 4. the abducted little girl should have been killed or omitted from the story because it was completely dumb that she was still alive, 5. the abducted kids inexplicably end up cocooned with apples in their mouths and 6. the witch teleporting in a dark wispy CGI cloud was overdone and cartoonish. I feel like this movie did not know what it wanted to be. Did it want to be an urban legend or a fable? Did it want to be PG or R rated? It tried to explain too much and then left a lot unexplained. If you want a witch movie that scares the crap out of you, this is not the one.

Trying to disprove a local legend about a haunted section of town ruled by a devious witch, a teen and his friends get caught up in the creature's true exploits after stumbling upon its latest victim and forcing them to stay one step ahead of the creature's evil powers to escape. This wasn't all that bad of an effort and had some good things going for it. One of the better elements is the fact that there's a lot more gruesome-ness that would be expected in such an effort, the majority of it tied to the deaths inflicted by the creature during the latter half of the movie. Filled with bodies being fed through a sausage maker, limbs being ripped off, scratches that act more like gouges in the flesh and much more,as well as the continued usage of severed limbs and entrails as general props makes for a rather bloody time. That the witch itself not only has a pretty creepy back-story in here, itself not really executed all that well but the idea itself is far and away quite chilling, works as a creepy character due not only to the back-story but also to the notion of using her powers despite already having the upper hand in the situation to gain an even more unfair advantage makes her that much more sinister and evil, just like a realistic being would be like if found in such a situation which greatly emphasizes the wickedness of the being. By trapping them inside the haunted house-style shack she inhabits that this whole thing takes place as well as the darkened woodlands surrounding the house, this pretty much focuses on a creepy character inhabiting a creepy location, and that's pretty impressive in establishing a fine atmosphere here. There's still some flaws here, as the fact that the human interactions here are so non-worthwhile that they make the film a pain to get through with their boredom in going through so many useless, unnecessary and utterly clichéd plot-points that the witch loses the central value for most of the first hour of the film. By having the family feuding with each other, the misunderstood teen fighting with the police for no real reason, the search party trying to score with each other, and generally focusing on these issues to the detriment of the horror makes this a tough one to get into. The finale as well takes a bit of extreme suspension to swallow it for how it finally handles the witch's powers, and it doesn't come off nearly as well as it should. These hold it down from what could've been.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Nudity, a sex scene and drug use.

This film has some awful reviews, personally I found the opening scenes creepy, the beginning I skipped a lot of acting was poor, cringeworthy and boring. After they get to the woods it gets a bit better. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it becomes a masterpiece in any way, shape or form, but if you like the 'Urban legend type story where teens get captured & then fight their way out' it gives you that - a bit tense and creepy in places. As I mentioned before I skipped along a few bits that were boring me and watched the more 'horror' bits and for me that made the film a lot better! As someone else said 'watch it drunk and it will be more fun'....

I dislike having to write negative reviews. I also love (most) movies that contain evil witch lore, and was hoping this movie would be entertaining like some other reviewers had promised. Sadly, it is not. I will say that the movie does do a good job of appearing to be well-made, but also contradicts itself in some of the worst ways possible. There is decent camera-work, lighting, and cinematography. The actors are NOT as bad as most cast-type teenagers (the characters are pretty flat and boring however.)The only reason I felt I should give it a chance was the promise of 'Gore' and some decent Fantasy inspired effects. The CGI special effects are simply put, terrible. We're talking default rendering presets that aren't shaded or blended correctly and simply look hideous. There is also about 10 seconds of RELATIVE 'gore' but simply put, it's lame and uncreative. The movie fails to create any suspense or even startle the viewer which is usually the foundation of a good horror movie. The entire movie also takes place at night in the woods (yawn) so there are no sets or practical scenarios (i think had they expanded some of the scenes to take place in practical every-day places it might have worked better for the suspense element.) But they choose to enter the exact same haunted witch house (at least 7 separate times after escapting) and run a muck through the woods, then back to the house again each time a different friend disappears. I am also at a loss to understand how a house that's been abandoned for 100's of years has cans of aerosol spray.Do yourself a favor and dig up 'Dead Silence' 'Superstition' or 'Darkness Falls' Darkness falls is only rated pg-13 (which is usually a deal breaker for me) but is still about 100 times better than 'The Wicked'
