In the lonely American Southwest, life is slow for the desert inhabitants of Coyote County. Although it reflects the diversity and pride of the Coyote County residents, local talk radio station K-RAP struggles financially, withering like a tumbleweed on its way to oblivion. Meanwhile, a rising radio personality from Los Angeles reluctantly drives through the hot desert toward Coyote County. His name is Jack Proctor. Upon visiting K-RAP, Jack meets the motley crew that works to keep the place running. These odd but charming individuals are a snapshot representation of the population living in this desert region. Jack meets Mr. Sanchez, the "maintenance engineer" and host of a "fix it" show; Raymond, the former-military accountant and host of an alien and paranormal phenomena talk show; Doyle, the sound engineer and host of a technology "geek" show; Mrs. Hopps...

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

Coyote County Loser appears to be a low budget entry that holds together due to a tight family orientated script. The "fish out of water" premise plays better than usual because it avoids making the man the clueless ape. An LA hip guy with radio skills stumbles into rural Coyote County only to go at odds with the female "love doctor" of the town. His goal? To get the biggest loser in the town to go out with HER, his "relationships are like cars" radio opposition. This was a Netflix gamble for me that gave some above board interest because of the "romantic" tension between the two leads. The film plays like a big safe worded high school play that gets it right. The male and female stars have no name recognition to me but deserve some praise for there exposition of quickwittedness that keeps a steady hum "gotcha" throughout. Finally a film that shows a professional woman that doesn't have all the emotional answers to love. And smartly, the film shows how all men are not super tool users and mechanics as well. The two butt heads with the female radio host becoming unarmed by this guys bravado yet still desiring to hold onto her core belief system.A few more twists and turns prevent the traditional road to an ending. A subplot with two misfit radio staff young adults goes nowhere and drudges up the films hokey origins while displaying some real bad acting. One reviewer mentioned a "Hallmark" film. I see that clear as day in this better than average quickie.Ultimately though the film could stir up an argument or two if watched with your significant other which means it effectively projects humanity. The low end style of film making does detract. Some indoor shots look like the road crew was used for regular speaking lines. I saw a recognizable face in the female radio stars mom, it was the woman who played Supermans mother in the Lois and Clark TV show. Hey, there's something. But, the amateur look of the movie prevails as it becomes an almost forgettable film saved by some punchy lead roles. I can see why a romantic would appreciate it though. I have to say, in this film, I wouldn't mind getting the girl (with some modification).

I loved this film. I also loved the similarly themed Doc Hollyood, with Michael J. Fox in the 80s. Only in that movie, the town itself and the conflict between big city and small town life played larger roles. This one was primarily a love story.I've never heard of anyone in this film, but they all did an amazing job. Nikki Boyer, the female protagonist, was totally believable as the all-talk/no-action academic. There's no explanation for why she looks like she may be from India, yet her deceased screen dad was a rancher in New Mexico. Maybe she was supposed to be part Native American, or Hispanic.Beau Clark, the male lead played his role as part alpha male/part city slicker/part vulnerable everyman with precision, while making it look easy.I am so tired of movies about fighters, psycho killers, sex-crazed teens, and dysfunctional families. This one thoroughly entertained me without one use of profanity and zero sex. Nice job.It renewed in me, a boyish optimism about love that I thought had long departed. It also prompted me to contemplate how true love smooths out other existential decisions. When you're in love, you can accept your fate without wanting much more. Or so the film says. Populate your evenings with films and values like this, and you'll live a blessed life.

Don't start watching Coyote County Loser expecting realism. For starters, the entire county seems to consist of about 30 people, a listener base that seems somehow able to support a full-time roster of talk radio personalities in the middle of the desert. Some of these personalities, like the host of the Conspiracy Hour, are quite funny. But the story really revolves around two of the talk radio DJs - cynical and logical Lauren Hartford (played with spunk by Nikki Boyer) and the charming, impulsive Jack Proctor (played by Beau Clark).Jack has gotten stuck in town for a bit on his way to a big-city DJ job in Los Angeles and ends up competing with local personality Lauren to see whose version of love makes the most sense.Should the town's ladies continue to listen to Lauren and compare their menfolk against Non-Negotiable Check Lists (NNCLs)? Or should the men use romance and charm (not to mention the occasional shower and breath mint) to sweep the objects of their affection off their feet. The big studios have mostly given up on little stories with a slice of American flavor that show people concerned with the most momentous issues of all - who to choose as a life partner, who deserves to be given the key to your heart. In short, for those who like some laughs, some romance and a nice dose of witty reparte, Coyote County Loser turns out to be a real winner.

Great movie, you may think, wow, he's just a "fan boy". But truly, this movie made me laugh, made me cry, had me in serious thought, it just touches you. Also is so very enjoyable to watch a movie that brings out all of those emotions, and yet is only PG. It lacks all the trash that most movies today have injecting into them. There is only one word said that would be considered "bad", Jack says "crap" once. And for a romance movie in today's world, this qualifies to be watched by most children, yet it still portrays the story extremely well. I do have to admit I would not rush out and take a ten year old to watch it because it does have some scenes that are not inappropriate, just could be a bit hard for a younger child to comprehend, and/or handle. Hope you can watch it soon, or have watched it and enjoyed it.
